Job description
Provides support for problem and change tickets and/or project tasks for client server support operations, which may span multiple service lines. Responsible for implementing changes to the client's environment and ensuring proper technical support to consistently maintain the operations of the client's servers and systems.
Tasks involve problem determination and implementation of changes to hardware, software, application or network systems. The employee uses judgment in choosing the task/routine.
- Install server operating system, system management software and operating system utilities using the customer build process
- Support server operating system, system management software and operating system utilities, including minor upgrades (such as a release upgrade) as provided by customer
- Manage the operating system configuration as per the customer design including initial server configuration, modifying configuration files, system configuration documentation and access to system configuration files. Maintenance checklist.
- Manage operating system file systems including creating, maintaining and deleting volumes and directory structures, modifying file system sizes, verifying mount point availability, repairing defective file systems and modifying file system permissions
- Monitor and reduce operating system log files to prevent file systems from overfilling
- Manage Operating System Processes (e.g., continuously running system subtasks, or daemons) including refreshing processes as required, establishing startup sequences, maintaining system clock synchronization and changing process priorities as appropriate
- Recommend operating system updates and configuration modification
- Apply operating system patch set updates as required and agreed by customer in line with the patching cycle.
- Maintain operational support procedures.
- Maintain the hardware and software configuration server information
- Coordinate server hardware and software service with the appropriate vendor
- Maintain domain structure as per the customer design
- Evaluate planned changes to the server environment and advise of any requirements to support such changes
- Adhere to standard security processes and procedures.
- Create and modify system login/logon scripts
- Assign print managers
- Define Print Queues
- Administer file system directory distribution and replication
- Provide health check and trending reports.
- Provide support for the customer Disaster Recovery checklists.
Job Requirements
Must-have Skills:
- At least 4 years UNIX related Systems Administration Experience.
- RHCE or Equivalent Linux Experience
Preferred Skills:
- Enterprise pSeries Hardware Experience (p5/6/7 - 570 770 595 795)
- Two of Shell/Perl/PHP/Python Scripting Experience.
- Enterprise server fleet (1000+) administrative experience
- Excellent storage/networking awareness/skills (802.1q VLAN tagging, IP-SAN, FC, NFS, iSCSI, VG/LV Storage)
- Expert performance diagnosis/tuning (UNIX OS, Storage, Networking, Application tracing)
- Good understanding of Disaster Recovery Methods/Practices
- Redhat Satellite Experience 3yrs+ is preferred.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP
Non-Technical Skills:
- Fluency in English is mandatory, both verbal and listening.
- Demonstrated ownership and positive attitude (Can do mentality).
- Ability to quickly assimilate technical and non-technical information.
Qualification:
- Bachelor IT degree or above is essential. Information Technology; Engineering or Science is preferred.
- RHCE 5, 6 Certification preferred
- AIX Certified Administrator preferred
- Solaris 10/11 Certified Administrator preferred
- HP-UX 11.11/23/31 Certified Administrator preferred
- VCP is preferred.
