Job Description:
1. Reporting to the Regional Head, is responsible for the commercial department including leadership, profitability, operational efficiency and strategy execution
2. Drive overall sales, commercial excellence, people leadership and sales execution
3. Enhance current revenues and identify new revenue opportunities and improve the market presence of PIL while delivering quality services to customers’ expectations.
4. Lead the team to meet relevant Objectives and KPI’s and develop competencies through continual coaching and support.
5. Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, vendors and customers.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Sales - Import / Exports:
? Participate in the definition of sales strategy (including targets) by channel and individually per Key Client.
? Deliver budgeted volumes aligned to Trade Strategy.
? Maximize revenue through increases, cargo / equipment mix and collections of local charges and DetDem.
? Develop comprehensive understanding and data base of Customers requirements (KYC) and Competitors differentiators.
? Ensure Sales team undertakes structured Sales Calls with agreed preparation, follow up and action plan that deliver results.
? Identify new service offering(products) to offer to Customers, i.e., triangulation, Off Dock, etc.
? Timely and accurate submission of customer waiver requests for escalation to the Regional Office / Trade.
? Set Sales targets for self and colleagues.
Customer Service
? Efficient and smooth release process with adherence to agreed SOP’s.
? Ongoing review of SOP’s to identify any potential areas for improvements and tightening.
? In collaboration with Finance Teams deliver timely and accurate invoices to Customers.
? Resolve issues with Customers in a timely manner.
? Identify and implement opportunities to digitize customer interactions to reduce foot traffic within the releasing section. Self Service and enhanced ERP.
2. Team Management/Leadership
? Build competent and highly motivated commercial teams
? Develop staff potential through optimal work assignments, coaching and training programs
? Set realistic short- and long-term goals for the team.
? Conduct regular feedback sessions and annual appraisals for all direct reports.
Improve Sales Results & Profitability – Set & Establish KPI’s covering the following areas:
? Manage business performance by target setting, follow up, corrective and control actions.
? Assist Senior Management Team to pursue goals to improve revenue generation through freight rate increases, adjustment & implementation of applicable local charges and constantly improve collection on tariff related ancillary charges (e.g. detention, demurrage etc).
? Own and lead commercial-related cost reduction initiatives, longstanding, extension of credit days and waivers in country in scope.

Job Requirements:
1. Tertiary education in business, marketing or commerce is preferable
2. 10 - 15 years of experience in the transportation industry with at least 5 years of experience in a commercial leadership role in the container shipping or logistics industries, preferably with general management experience and P/L exposure

Technical Skills and Competencies Required:
1. Strong financial technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong commercial focus
2. Proven leadership track record and sales background and success
3. Strong understanding of global and/or regional operations of transportation industry
4. Excellent understanding of equipment management, port & terminal operations
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in both verbal and written English.
6. Mature, adaptable and possess a high degree of integrity
7. Open-minded, self-motivated, takes initiative, and a good team player
8. Strong analytical ability & problem solving aptitude
9. Overseas work experience in Africa preferred
10. Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills, strong cultural awareness.
11. Strong working knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), ability to quickly adapt to new systems
