POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide innovative leadership to the pharmacy team through the:

? Delivery of a high standard service in a busy environment

? Promotion of excellent pharmaceutical care for all patients

? Provision of information to patients who use the pharmacy service, promoting the safe and effective use of their medication

The post holder will maintain and develop the highest standards of patient-focused care supporting safe and effective use of medicines and be expected to use their experience and initiative to develop the role and assist leading the department forward with respect to its service provision.

As an active member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, the post-holder will assist with the quality, governance, and assurance of pharmacy services. They will assist with monitoring all aspects of the pharmacy services with the aim of ensuring that all relevant standards, professional statutory and operation are assured as compliant.

The post holder will play a major role in the continuous development of members of the Pharmacy and multidisciplinary team and a range of quality/process improvement project groups.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILTIIES:

Dispensary services

? Oversee and be responsible for ensuring provision of high quality dispensary a services to consistently meet the needs of all internal and external customers in liaison with the dispensary staff.

? Support and direct the work of all dispensary staff, ensuring standard operating procedures are followed and standards maintained.

? Ensure appropriate purchasing and accurate stock control within the dispensary and on the wards.

? Ensure efficient procurement of pharmaceutical items in line with pharmacy contracts.

? Ensure efficient and accurate medication supplies to patients and wards/clinical areas including top up, vaccines services

? Ensure optimal stock management e.g. routine stock and expiry date checks.

? Assist with the effective and prompt revenue capture of all pharmaceutical items held at the hospital.

? Ensure patient education is provided to all outpatients and discharged patients.

? Verify and final check prescriptions and ensure accurate record keeping, especially controlled drugs.

? Participate and support the operations of other services within the department including clinical, PIVAS etc upon request.

? To constant review and commission old/new dispensary services and procedures pending to the services growth of the hospital.

? Ensure adherence to procedures for recalled pharmaceutical products.

? Chair and organise the dispensary team meetings.

? Ensure dispensary is in good order.

Clinical services

? Be responsible for formulating strategy and providing leadership in the advancement of clinical and ward pharmacy services. Be a role model and motivate the pharmacy team in the provision of clinical pharmacy services.

? Oversee all ward based clinical pharmacy services and ensure KPIs are met to ensure that they are efficient, effective and safe.

? Lead on best practice in current and future thinking in the development of the clinical practice standards.

? Assist in the management and development of medicines management and other clinical governance initiatives as requested by the Director of Pharmacy.

? Assist in the teaching and tutoring of pharmacists on post-graduate clinical pharmacy education and competencies.

? Promote the cost-effective utilisation of drugs and develop collaborative prescribing and treatment guidelines.

? Evaluate and re-shape existing clinical pharmacy services to give emphasis to patient focused care.

? Manage the training and development of all clinical pharmacy staff.

? Collaborate with senior clinical mangers to formulate ad implement effective strategies for clinical services.

? Participate and support the operations of other services within the department including dispensary, PIVAS upon request.

PIVAS services

? Developing and maintaining the pharmacy PIVAS unit, business planning, governance, assurance and performance. To support and direct the work of all dispensary staff, ensuring standard operating procedures are followed and standards maintained.

? Providing productivity and efficiency gains and ensuring the pharmacy services continue to develop and meet the needs of their users.

? Ensuring staff comply with safe handling requirements for intravenous, cytotoxic and teratogenic drugs and that safe systems of work are adhered to at all times.

? Ensure appropriate purchasing and accurate stock control within PIVAS.

? Ensure optimal stock management e.g. routine stock and expiry date checks.

? Support the Director of Pharmacy to raise the profile of the pharmacy within and outside of the department, develop effective workforce planning initiatives and identify new opportunities for business growth.

? Assist with the effective and prompt revenue capture of all pharmaceutical items held at the hospital.

? Verify and final check PIVAS prescriptions and ensure accurate record keeping.

? Participate and support the operations of other services within the department including clinical, dispensary upon request.

Quality and Safety

? Participate in revision and development of hospital and local policies and SOPs and ensure they are all in date.

? To ensure that departmental procedures, hospital policies and appropriate legislations are adhered to.

? Ensure relevant audits are performed to improve pharmacy service provision.

? Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the work of the pharmacy team to ensure pharmacy service needs are met.

? Ensure all pharmacy equipment is in good working order.

Education and Training

? Provide support and supervision to pharmacists and technicians working within the hospital. To act as a mentor and manager for staff, when required.

? Assist in staff recruitment.

? Conduct staff orientation and training.

? To identify training needs of relevant staff and conduct competencies assessment for staff.

? To lead on best practice in current and future thinking in the development of pharmacy services.

? To assist in the appraisals for pharmacy staff if required.

? To manage and participate in a rota system of work to include early/late shifts including the weekends and bank holidays.

? Provide training to all staff on pharmacy related technology systems including EMR, ADC etc.

? To participate in multidisciplinary teamwork, helping to motivate staff and maintain effective working relationships.

? Participate in relevant internal and external teaching initiatives for nursing and medical staff.

Others

? To participate in the marketing and development of the pharmaceutical service.

? Constant review and commission old/new services and procedures pending to the services growth of the hospital.

? To abide by the Employee Handbook for Jiahui Health.

? To carry out any other duties at the request of the Director of Pharmacy.
