About us:

Smiths BIS (Business Information Services) is responsible for the selection, development, implementation, support, and ongoing lifecycle management of all Smiths Group Enterprise IT Systems. Smiths has a portfolio of core ERP systems and other satellite systems which are integrated into those ERP systems to deliver integrated business processes. To make Smiths Group and its employees more productive, BIS is continually looking at ways to Digitize business processes with end to end integrated business processes.

Smiths operates within an Excellence model at a Group level. This model seeks to identify leading practices that can be shared across its Divisions.  Efforts may range from training and guidance through to common and codified processes and systems depending upon the function and area of business. BIS partners with the Executive Level sponsors of these Excellence Programmes to identify, scope and build the processes and solutions that will support their agendas, ensuring that the solutions are appropriate and fit for purpose to the Divisions that will likely leverage them. 


Specific duties, activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage complex, high impact initiatives that span one or multiple lines of business. Ensure project are delivered successfully to support the achievement of defined objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong governance and control over project deliveries throughout the Project Lifecycle inclusive of Operating and Executive Committee structures and escalation protocol.  
  • Establish the appropriate level of project management rigor based on the complexity and impact of the project to the Division. Set and continually manage project and programme expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders.
  • Organize and manage all aspects of project and programme engagement from planning, scope management, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, risks, and issues. 
  • Strong financial understanding and demonstrated experience managing multi-faceted budgets inclusive of Capital and Operational expenditures.  
  • Deliver appropriate and effective communications demonstrating confidence and transparency in communications based on the target audience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing on-site/virtual leadership for project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.   Experience with leading Offshore and Global teams. Monitor staff (internal and external) performance holding team members accountable for agreed upon deliveries while escalating issues in a professional, timely manner.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations to various audiences, including project team, sponsors, senior executives and key stakeholders.  Provide regular and appropriately aligned status reporting against project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues and decisions.
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
  • Demonstrate relevant functional and technical acumen to support how solutions will address Divisional goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices; Understand interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs with demonstrated ability to align all Technical and Business Readiness aspects of the project.
  • Manage quality throughout the project lifecycle.  Define success criteria and ensure alignment by all involved parties throughout project and program life cycle. Act as an internal quality control check for the project.

Critical Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Worked in international group of £multibillion companies ideally in manufacturing and/or engineering and electronics.
  • 7-10+ years of proven experience of project and program management principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Track record of successful project completion and implementation. Can point to tangible outcomes and validate them.
  • Delivery of tangible transformation and change exercises in different operational contexts.
  • PMP or equivalent Project Certifications (Prince II, etc.).
  • 7+ years of experience working with business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • 7+ years of experience with full product lifecycle with understanding of development lifecycle and various methodologies Agile, SCRUM, SDLC / Waterfall.
  • Experience of the widest array of business and commercial functions.
  • Experience of the widest array of technology capabilities.
