Reporting to a Director / Partner, UNITE China – Center of Excellence in Data and Analytics, you are tasked with developing a suite of best-in-class tools and services that power the entire agency’s understanding of both our own and our client’s marketing performance, enabling a true agency of the future.
Your dream is to perfectly predict the exact business value of every touchpoint that exists in China, directly contributing to Unilever’s myriad of investment decisions. Making this dream a reality will require you to bring the power of data harmonization, automation and intelligent dashboarding to every facet of UNITE China and Unilever’s marketing, creating a systemic approach to data that makes every single investment as effectively and efficiently planned as possible. You are constantly striving to leverage the best of PowerBI, streaming analytics and the latest martech solutions in the service of understanding the clients business are strong. In short, you make our approach to data and media operations better, faster and stronger.
You will work in partnership with your team and the rest of UNITE China, building critical tools and enabling everyone to follow best practices when it comes to data ingestion, automation, compliance, harmonization, reporting and processes. Your passion to share your expertise with the wider organization should be strong. You build capabilities that will surprise and delight today but become mainstream tomorrow. You do this built on three key pillars – a passion for your craft, your desire to impart your craft expertise and train and develop others, and your ability to scale this across the team.
Critically, you’ll combine this industry leading knowledge of data and application development with a deep understanding of the client’s business, including but not limited to all aspects of marketing. All deliverables generated MUST be actionable in the service of growing Unilever’s business. You will also understand clearly the the products and services offered by WPP and identify how they could be leveraged to further accelerate the client’s business. This is all combined with a maximisation of all the knowledge, research and investment that already sits with Unilever.

- The remit encompasses every aspect of the consumer journey, providing a complete opportunity to design and deliver brilliance across every touchpoint that exists in China, with a client that is fully leaned into driving the industry forward.
- You will lead data mining, cleaning, analysis, and visualization projects, as well as integration of various sources of information to help generate quick and actionable insights that are accessible across UNITE China.
- You are a subject matter expert when it comes to several aspects of data, consumers, platforms and the client’s categories in China, able to articulate clearly actionable data and analytics insights to both UNITE and Unilever stakeholders.
- You will be a champion on automation and continuous optimization of how the organization works with data, ensuring that UNITE China is advancing its workflow efficiency.
- You will develop a deep understanding of what UNITE China and WPP can offer our clients and the full extent of our capabilities, tools and frameworks across the communication development process.
- You are passionate about deconstructing your area of expertise for others and constantly look to provide toolkits and enablers to help others develop the same level of passion and skill.
- You will build top-of-the-class data tools with ultra high accuracy, provide technical advice to other UNITE China teams and clearly communicate the reasoning and rationale behind your solution proposals
- You will consistently optimize the agency tools to improve the quality and efficiency of the cross-agency teams
- You are a subject matter expert when it comes to several aspects of data, consumers, platforms and the client’s categories in China, able to articulate clearly actionable data and analytics insights to both UNITE and Unilever stakeholders.
- You are a trainer and a coach consistently imparting your skills to others.
- You must exhibit technical competence in areas of data management, programming, mining, analytics, visualization, automation, etc. with demonstrated experience in building tools and products that helped transform how an organization works with various types of data.
- Have the ability to demonstrate a depth of understanding of the challenges in the industry and the organization with regards to data and technology, connecting your knowledge with the the client’s business and brand challenges.
- You are a subject matter expert and a high learning agility with the ability to understand how your craft is evolving ensuring that you have an eye not just to the present but to the future.
- You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with evolved present-to-persuade and facilitation skills.
- Collaboration and accountability are critical for this role.
- You are proficient in database tools such as SQL Server, have significant experience in SQL programming, understands distributed and cloud computing; Hadoop, Spark processing of large amounts of data
- Proficient in two of the following coding languages: Python, Java/Java Script, R; can work with VB, C++ etc to automate processing of files in Excel
- Experienced in data processing, mining, analyzing and debugging
- Solid Power BI knowledge and experience
- Passionate about advertising/marketing/business intelligence industry, hungry for new knowledge and experiences;
- Collaboration and accountability are critical for this role.
- Good command of written and oral English is a plus
In 3 months:
· Work closely with Partner and the team to understand the key segments of media, digital and data operations
· Understand UNITE China’s scope of work and working processes and establish cross-team collaboration
· Transform repetitive work through automation
In 6 months:
· Conduct digital transformation of the agency media operations
· Visualize key data for the UNITE China cross teams and clients
· Successfully build a cross-team relationship within UNITE China to improve working efficiency and effectiveness
· Be able to successfully coach junior colleagues and help them establish a path for their own professional development
In 12 months:
· Build good relationship GroupM and WPP agencies in China and globally, and share as well as adopt good practice
· Successfully manage the digital transformation of UNITE China
· Become the key client and agency contact and source of knowledge for digital transformation, automation and data visualization
· Acquire comperehensive knowledge of the current marketplace conditions
· Respond to all internal and external requests quickly, accurately and up to the highest standard
