Reporting to: Business Controls Manager

Position Overview:
The Business Controls Analyst position for the Finance Business Controls is responsible for conducting business process control/improvement reviews and tests and reporting to the Business Controls Manager.

As an experienced professional, he/she should have fundamental understanding of IBM’s business units and business controls processes and be capable of providing leadership to other professionals on the team. Business Controls Analyst performs most Finance Business Controls responsibilities independently and solicits input / guidance from senior professionals and management. In addition, Business Controls Analyst often coordinates the analysis and reporting of other team members of the department / team.

Major Responsibilities:

• Interprets most control policies, procedures and directives for line management. Implements required / new control tools, techniques, programs and/or measurements.
• Assists in establishing and conducting process reviews and re-engineering activities and in limited cases may perform as a team lead.
• Performs selected independent risk-based process reviews and prepares related assessment reports to process owners / management. Identifies problem areas and provides input for resolution.
• Assists the team / line management with self-assessment and compliance reporting and corrective actions. Coordinates tracking, trending and measuring data in support of improving controls posture.
• Educates and/or trains less experienced business controls staff.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

The position will involve the following skills:

Environment:
• Possesses professional knowledge related to business processes;
• Fundamental understanding of corporate policies, practices and procedures in relation to controls.
• Fundamental knowledge of controls programs.
• Understands and applies business control practices and concepts.
• Understands and makes effective use of all workstation based tools that are available.

Communication/Negotiation:
• Good communication and negotiation skills, sufficient to relay relevant facts to process owners, focals, team leaders, peers, customers and management.

Problem Solving:
• Understands and makes effective use of data analysis tools and techniques.
• Identifies control issues, evaluates recommendations and advises/alerts senior controls staff and/or management.
• Works independently to generate recommendations and implement change. Possesses basic team / project management capabilities.
• Can draw conclusions from diverse data and make recommendations.

Contribution/Leadership:

• Coordinates the operation of departments and small teams within the respective controls organization.
• Provides leadership and direction on most controls issues to other professionals and management.
• Responsible and accountable for diverse assignments.

Impact on Business/Scope:

• Has impact on tactical and strategic controls programs / results within local area of responsibility.
• Contributes to problem and issue resolution recommendations.
• Supports efforts to identify ways to improve overall controls posture.
• Accountable for individual, team, or department results for assigned area of responsibility.
