Overview of job
GroupM is the leading global media investment company and are a part of WPP. In fact, we are responsible for one in every three ads you see globally. We are currently looking for a senior data engineer to join us. In this role, you will be responsible for the data & tech products development, by improving existing products/components or building new products/components, to strengthening GroupM data-driven strategic planning and insights capabilities, better support GroupM business from data & tech prospective.

Reporting of the role

    

This role reports to: Head of Development of [m]PLATFORM Data and Technology

In this role, your goals will be:
In three months:

  • Understand the positioning and the key values of [m]PLATFORM data & tech products as an agency tool and how they work technically in a detailed manner
  • Understand the existing data science use cases and products, and start contributing with improvements.
  • Deliver 1 new data science products or solutions to the business

                

In six months:

  • Take over all the data scientist related research and work of [m]PLATFORM to ensure they all work from time to time and identify improvement opportunities
  • Establish a good working relationship with both internal and external teams across local, regional and global
  • Deliver at least 2 new data science products or solutions to the business

                

In 12 months:

  • Take a technical and project management leadership role for resource planning, project management and stakeholder communication regarding progress, risk, plan, etc.
  • Deliver at least 5 new data science products or solutions to the business

            


What your day job looks like at GroupM:

  • Communicate with multiple internal and external parties, like global product team, local key subject matter experts, agencies, external technique vendors, external data partners etc.
  • Local data & tech projects or components design, development, deployment and supporting
  • Support local key subject matter experts for external technique communication, analysing or even quick POC
  • Work with internal development resource from other business units for the products or components development, project management

Minimum qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience on applying data science in industries, and have deep understanding of data-driven business
  • Familiar with classical algorithms and frameworks, for example, linear regression, logistic regression, decision tree, random forest, xgboost, K-means, time series, Keras, Tensorflow, etc.
  • Familiar with feature engineering, auto hyperparameter turning, and data visualization
  • Can clearly explain the methodology to non-tech audiences, including the clients
  • Experience with market science is a merit
  • Data engineering capability is a plus
  • Familiar with cloud platform (Aliyun, AWS, Azure etc.)

                                

  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of the online media/advertising marketplace will be a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in both Chinese and English
  • Ability to work independently is essential
  • Degrees in Statistics or Math or Computer Science preferred
