Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbucks success by managing day-to-day operations in compliance with established standards in plant engineering and maintenance, meeting yearly quality, profit improvement, and partner development objectives. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
- Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
- Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.
Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
- Maintains open communication with plant manager regarding team's progress toward departmental goals.
- Manages annual expense and capital project budgets.
- Manages operational schedule to improve productivity and reliability.
- Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
- Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
- Supports established plant and department goals and objectives, including development and maintenance of programs and procedures for engineering and maintenance areas.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Anticipates, recognizes and assesses situations quickly and organizes resources to take appropriate action.
- Develops and implements cost-saving opportunities to meet or exceed plant and company expectations.
- Develops operating plans to anticipate future operational needs and technology linkages.
- Ensures a safe workplace by addressing safety issues and ensuring that all safety standards are followed.
- Establishes and implements procedures that improve quality, reduce operating costs, and are owned and maintained by end users.
- Maintains and improves customer service levels for all business units serviced from plant, ensuring proper communication channels are maintained.
- Oversees start-up of new capital investments.
- Sets technical direction and leads efforts that impact engineering and maintenance's effectiveness in the design and execution process with internal customers and key suppliers.
- Translates business requirements into plans and objectives for others to act on.
- Uses knowledge of internal and external resources to develop strategies that provide a competitive advantage and support long-term Starbucks initiatives.
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
- Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
- Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
- Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
- Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
- Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
Summary of Experience
- Working in two or more engineering disciplines of management, such as distribution, manufacturing, scheduling, mechanical and electrical maintenance, quality assurance, or engineering (8 years)
- Consumer products or food company (7years)
- Budget planning and management
- Implementation of quality, customer service and cost optimization programs from a field or home office position
- Managing and developing others
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Team-building skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to solve complex problems and follow through to solution
- Ability to manage multiple groups which may have diverse goals
- Ability to provide leadership, with the ability to coach and mentor team partners
- Analytical and quantitative skills
- Ability to build relationships
- Familiarity with American Institute of Baking (AIB), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards
- Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards including Preventive Controls for Human Food (21 CFR 117) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Experience with FSC22000, BRC or SQF certification schemes.
