Job Title: Process Safety Specialist

Report to: Regional Process Safety Competence Manager, China O&RC

Business Unit: DSM(China) Limited

Location: Shanghai

The Challenge:

1. Technically it is often difficult to judge “how safe is safe enough?” In other words, when is the risk acceptable and are further risk reducing measures no longer sensible?

2. The specialist will often be called in difficult situations (w.r.t. SHE reqs., authorities, investments, technology etc.) and must be able to act sensitively and diplomatically whilst continuing to advocate the company policy

3. Questions/problems will often be characterized by high technical/organizational complexity of which a good overview needs to be obtained quickly.

4. Customers often expect input under both time and financial pressure requiring tenacity and discipline

5. Very frequent traveling is an intrinsic part of the job, since the support activities mostly need to be done on site.

6. Heavy and intensive Hazop workload on support china project team due to all LCP schedule in China is very tight

The Position:

1. Providing expert service (asked for by BG’s/sites/project teams in Greater China because of the specific knowledge/expertise).

2. Providing basic knowledge via training on methodologies (purpose: roll out of methods and consistency in application)

3. Spotting problems with implementation and local developments, judging their global relevance and giving feedback to Great China Regional Process Safety

4. Challenge/act as second opinion on work performed by local teams and/or external experts (balance between cost and safety)

5. Contribute to the maintenance and development (as required) of selected expertise areas

6. Support process safety network in China

The Ideal:

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher vocational education

2. More than 7 years’ experience in manufacturing and/or projects

3. Experience in at least some of the mentioned expertise Areas and in any event familiarity with conducting safety studies such as HAZOP (at least 2-3 years’ experience in HAZOP), LOPA, or QRA

4. Experience of chairing multi-disciplinary teams with good communication skill

5. Experience of training and coaching

6. Process safety knowledge is must

7. Chemical Process background is preferred

8. Stakeholder management skill is a plus

9. In depth knowledge of at least one of the mentioned expertise areas

10. Familiarity with the DSM SHE and manufacturing requirements
