Position: Mechanical Engineering Technician, Division of Engineering

Qualifications:

Essential: Bachelor degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or related discipline; Knowledge of workshop activities including operating the lathe, milling and drilling machines; Competent in the design, construction and commissioning of experimental rigs; Competent in supervising student lab session independently; Confident in the use of common workshop and material testing equipment; Capable of carrying out maintenance tasks; Capable of the implementation of safety measures in laboratories; Good communication skills, including written and spoken English; Computer literacy; Good organizational and time management skills; Ability to work independently when required; Problem-solving skills.

Desirable: Master degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; Experience in operating materials testing equipment e.g. Hardness and universal testing machines; Experience and skill in using Pro Engineer software; Recent experience of modern CNC machining, ideally five axis; Working experience in relevant area; Experience with wood working tools.

Salary & Benefits: RMB67,000 - RMB116,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide support for teaching and research in engineering and related subjects;
- To demonstrate laboratory skills to students;
- To assist students and staff with experiments;
- To manufacture small parts and test rigs for teaching and research purposes;
- To provide day-to-day management of the laboratory, including safe laboratory and workshop practice;
- To ensure the disposal of materials, to work in an orderly manner, observing the University's health and safety policies and specific rules of the workshop and laboratories safety regulations;
- To assist with the ordering of materials and equipment;
- To maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, tidy and efficient condition;
- To maintain documentation of materials and processes used, as reference material.
