Job description / Mission
Atlas Copco Construction & Mining Technique (CMT) has launched the establishment of an R&D Centre in Nanjing, with a new Rocktec-China at its core. China is a very important market for CMT and local engineering and R&D resources are key to maintain CMT's strong position in the increasingly competitive Chinese market. The model for the R&D Canter in Nanjing will be based on additional divisional D&D engineering resources, focussing on applications and products designed for the Chinese market, with a core of Rocktec-China specialist engineering resources, providing services to the four divisional D&D teams in Nanjing and the other CMT product companies in China. Rocktec-China will be modelled on the same principle as Rocktec in Örebro, with Specialist Engineering Services and laboratories similar to what are established in Örebro. Rocktec-China will also take technical control of all rock drills and rotation units that will be produced in China for the Chinese market. Rocktec Örebro will continue with its current services to CMT divisions in Europe and the rest of the world.
Your mission will be to establish the new R&D Centre in Nanjing, with Rocktec-China at its core, providing world class specialist engineering services, including laboratories and research and development capabilities to all CMT divisions in China. Technical control and production of rock drills and rotation units for the Chinese market will be part of your mission, in close coordination with Rocktec division. If you are an expatriate, it will be part of your mission to train a deputy manager to take over from you after your two year mission.
Your primary tasks to fulfil your mission will be to
§ Manage the Rocktec-China specialist engineering services provided to the divisional D&D teams in Nanjing and the other product companies in China
§ Coordinate and ensure optimised synergies as per the Nanjing R&D Centre model
§ Manage the technical control, sourcing of parts and production of rock drills and rotation units produced in China for the Chinese market, in close coordination with the Rocktec division
§ Liaise and work with universities and research institutes in China to optimise the R&D efforts and specialised engineering services in the R&D Centre
§ Liaise and work with engineering talent/recruitment pools in China to attract the best engineering talent in China
§ Ensure the employment and retention of engineers with the right skills and attitude in the R&D Centre
§ Secure that competence development and talent management get a very high priority
As R&D Centre Manager, you will report to the General Manager of the CMT Product Company in Nanjing and indirect reporting to the Rocktec Divisional President.
Education, Knowledge and Experience
You have a track record of proven, successful management skills related to research/design and development, preferably in an industrial environment. You have the knowledge and experience to discuss highly technical projects with D&D managers, university professors or research centre personnel. You have an advanced university degree in Engineering or Science with at least 2 years of experience in an industrial research and development environment, preferably with experience working in. You are fluent in English and have good presentation skills.

You are well structured and organised and have a strong sense of ownership, taking responsibility and leading until a successful conclusion. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are innovative and have the ability to get things done through other people by engaging them in a positive way.
