Syngenta Beijing Innovation centre, the centre of excellence for genome editing is    seeking for a highly responsible and self-motivated talent to join the Trait Evaluation Group. As a Research Scientist, this person will play a key role in initiating and delivering research projects.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement fit-for-purpose disease assays to evaluate efficacy of material in greenhouse from both stable and transient genetic manipulation.
• Conduct plant pathology experiment and deliver high quality phenotyping data packages to research projects. Ensure project objectives and milestones are achieved timely.
• Scout plant pathogens to meet requirements for new disease control projects, establish pathogen culture and maintain protocols to ensure pathogenicity.
• Provide expertise on greenhouse biosafety management for plant pathogens and implement effective control measures to minimize biosafety risks.
• Contribute to greenhouse crop protection work by providing expertise on plant disease identification and control measures.
• Propose business driven projects in crop disease resistance area. Design science plan and technical workflow, closely work with project core team to achieve project goals. Ensure the efficient communication between project and Trait Evaluation group.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and perform all activities in compliance with Syngenta quality management and HSE guidance.

Requirements

• Master/Ph.D.’s in plant pathology, preferred with over 3 years’ experience in relevant fields. Bachelor’s major in plant protection or plant pathology is required.
• Strong knowledge on plant disease phenotyping and hands-on experiences on at least one of virus, bacteria, and fungal diseases is required.
• Experience in molecular pathology (plant-pathogen interaction) is preferred.
• Proficient on phenotypic experiment design and data analysis to reach a convincing conclusion.
• Ability to manage simultaneous disease trials involving different types of plant materials and pathogens.
• Highly motivated, team and customer focused, attention to detail and result oriented.
• Good scientific project planning, execution and reporting skills.
• Dedicated and passionate for industrial research

• Good team player and capable of influencing others
• Excellent written and oral English communication
