Job Title: Market Development Specialist
Report to: Head of Global Strategic Marketing (DHC)
Business Unit: DSM Hydrocolloids
Location: Shanghai
The Challenge:
As DHC continues to grow it’s the biogum business and expand into a wider array of applications and industries, it must balance the need to structure whilst maintaining a nimbleness, flexibility and agility that is required to thrive in an increasingly entrepreneurial environment. Part of this journey will also include the need to consider different business models.
DHC is thereby seeking continued profitable growth and expansion. We seek to achieve these objectives through customer service excellence and understanding, innovation from formulation, production, application expertise, rapid response to changing customer and consumer needs as well as ongoing development and rewards to all staff.
The Position:
The Market Development Specialist will play a key role in the future direction of the organization and development of strategies. These strategies will support:
Continued profitable growth via refining our M&S efforts
Diversification outside the current concentration in the dairy segment
Expansion of core competencies
Key to this individual’s success is the interaction with Sales Managers, Application Specialists, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and outside customers and prospects. The specific responsibilities include:
Refinement and implementation of a new business plan for best fit market segments outside of the dairy industry
Identification of best prospects in targeted segments
Sales and gross margin profitability for selected assigned accounts. Must have ability to discern key direct & indirect cost drivers on new business and impact on business profitability.
Participate in process to provide best-fit alternative options to expand current core competencies. This will include the generation of intelligence derived by gathering and analyzing information by attending seminars, tradeshows, undertaking web research, compiling sales and customer input.
The position will also require assisting DHC and collaborating in building marketing related documentation, communications, trade shows and social media presence, where required and is decided that such promotional work is in line with the requirements for a successful execution.
Given the flat hierarchy and DHC still being in the growth phase of business development, as other work demands, and projects arise, be willing to support other business requirements (e.g. integration of a company, CRM implementation).
The Ideal:
BS or BA degree in business, marketing, food sciences, biology, chemistry or related field.
Food and beverage experience
Experience in or strongly seeking development, implementation, successful execution of plans to generate new business in targeted market segments and prospects
Experience in supporting sales to large accounts
Preference for experience in marketing/sales in the food or ingredient industry.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Analytical experience
Proficiency in a team environment
