EC Strategy Director – Mindshare, China

  

  

Overview of job As the Strategy lead for eCommerce at Mindshare China you will help drive a business that will be a cornerstone for the agency moving forwards. With both Alibaba and Tencent evolving their eCommerce ambition towards building brands and driving brand outcomes – it is critical the agency of the future continues to build market leading capabilities in this highly dynamic space.

  

Reporting of the role

  

This role reports to the Chief Digital Officer – Mindshare, China.

  

Your key responsibilities will encompass the critical Ps:

  

  

PEOPLE

  

  • Stakeholder management, both internal and external, will be key as the eCommerce channels do not exist in isolation and require tight integration with the various client teams as that’s where the business ultimately lands.

  • We are ultimately a people business and require the appropriate talent to drive our digital agenda. Best utilization of the resources available to you as well as identifying resource requirements and resolving it will be critical to your success.

    

  

PRODUCT:

  

  • This is not a channel optimization role. It is a role that seeks to lead both the agency and client towards better thinking around the integration of EC into the broader brand and communication objectives.

  • Drive better cross channel and platform budgeting frameworks beyond GMV and ROI considerations

  • Ensure market leading innovation and best practice implementation from Alibaba, Tencent and JD. This requires intimate knowledge on both the platforms and each of the client clusters to understand their respective roles and challenges and focusing on where we can make the largest impact.

      

  

PARTNERSHIP:

  

  • Building and maintaining a close relationship with Alibaba and JD is critical to the success of the role. The ability to call upon resource to be ahead of the market in terms of intelligence as well as troubleshoot is essential.

  • The clients need to recognize you as the agency authority on Alibaba and JD. This is developed by providing leadership and solutions to their needs around eCommerce. Understanding the key stakeholders and building an engagement plan for them will be key.

  • Internally, building key relationships with the Planning and Strategy teams which focuses on overall product and profile of Mindshare will be critical.

  • Deliver strong ratings that are reflected across feedback given in the TRR.

  • Recognition in the form of Employee of the Month submissions as well as award wins will be performance milestones to reach towards.

  2. As the Strateg leader of our eCommerce business, you’ll be tasked with injecting Performance based data and insights into the broader planning product and in the process redefining how the agency approaches media planning

  3. It’s eCommerce. The world is moving in that direction. You will be charged with driving that for the largest media agency in China working across all the publishers, vendors and start-ups creating disruption to “traditional” way of doing business.

          

Measures of success – In three months, you would have:

  

  • Understood the eCommerce needs and requirements across the business

  • Crafted and started to deliver upon a roadmap to create a best in class product for Mindshare

    


In six months, you would have:

  

  • To have successfully built up a strong working relationship with the clients and your team where you are trusted and seen as adding value to the business. You are the first port of call and seen as a proactive problem solver and driver of strategic initiatives on the business.

  • Understood and identified opportunities to influence change to drive better planning across the digital teams within the agency.

    

Responsibilities of the role:

  

  • Define and oversee our strategy and solution in the Performance space in close collaboration with internal stakeholders

    • Review and benchmark of current services

    • Phased development plan for growth / success

    • Clear escalation process for best in class service

  • Provide leadership across the internal stakeholders with regards to Technology and Product delivery

  • Have an insatiable curiosity about learning what is happening in the eCommerce space and seeing how it can be applied to our clients.

  • Write clear, articulate and strategic presentations – acting as the spine – that pulls together key deliveries of our work across the business.

  • Be a change agent. A person who is ready to take on the responsibility of building out the Performance product on a canvas of your making. This means: “I am brave, I am an evangelist, I have proven I experience in creating change.”

  • Work with a Talent Mindset. Coaching, guiding and mentoring for a team of bright talents who are passionate about Performance but sorely in need of direction. This also means identifying and hiring remarkable people who share your passion. You might say “I have a network of people who can vouch for me as an inspiring leader.”

                  

  

  

What you will need:

  

  • At least 8 years’ eCommerce marketing related experience ideally with experience of directly working with Alibaba and JD.

  • Client leadership maturity: rounded communication with clients, internal and external counterparts; good project management and people engagement/leadership

  • Good Business insight and strategy thinking to identify and develop business opportunities.

  • Good cross-culture communication: experienced with big MNC clients, strong coordination capability between global and local with good English communication skills.
