Summary of Position:

  • The Critical Concern Process tracks all Concerns that may lead to a vehicle recall. The Critical Concern Investigation Leader is responsible for leading investigation teams through the Critical Concern process and helping the team to determine if a recall is required.
  • The Critical Concern Investigation Leader will have wide exposure to all areas of the company. Due to the range of issues which can lead to a Critical Concern, the investigation teams can consist of staff from virtually any function within Ford.
  • This position also has significant exposure to Senior Management.Any recommendations made by an investigation team have to be reviewed with Function Chiefs. Before any recall can commence, the action has to be approved by Directors.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead critical concern investigation teams through the critical concern process. Make sure the investigation is carried out in a diligent and timely manner.
  • Notify and engage the appropriate Functional Chief Engineer(s) of new concerns.Setup and administer new investigation teams.
  • Assist the CCM as an initial point of contact for all new concerns.
  • Assist in the management of the CCRG (Critical Concern Review Group) and FRC (Field Review Committee) meetings - these are used to track and approve all concerns.
  • Manage the interface with vehicle fleets and assembly plants for early identification and containment of potential concerns.
  • Conduct field audits, assist in fire/safety field investigations and support government enquiries.
  • Review stop ships and consult with Plant and Product Development team to identify if there is a potential critical concern. (Stop ship is when an issue has resulted in the production plant having to stop shipment of vehicles to dealers.)
  • Coach and consult with PVT (Production Vehicle Team) Managers on potential safety related concerns. PVT is the plant based engineering team.
  • No-one reports directly to the Critical Concern Investigation Leader.
  • On a day to day basis the Critical Concern Investigation Leader will be responsible for leading the investigation of a number of concerns concurrently. These will range from:the early phase when the team needs to identify any risk to the customer;the final phase when the leader needs to obtain full team concurrence before requesting approval for a recall.

Qualifications:

  • Either Minimum of Bachelor Degree, or Minimum of 5 years experience in an automotive engineering field with responsibility for safety related parts (e.g. Chassis, Restraints, Fuel systems).
  • Experience:Minimum of 3 years working in the automotive industry. Preferably with experience working on safety related components.
  • Ability to conduct and manage conference meetings involving different cultures and time zones.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to senior management and peers. This includes presentations to groups, conference calls and one-on-one meetings.
  • Ability to obtain commitment and subsequent delivery of results from people who do not directly report to you.
  • Flexible work arrangements required to support regional and global meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience of solving technical engineering problems.
