Job Summary:

  

Responsible for delivery of China-side product development activities in collaboration with USA based colleagues as well as purchasing and quality control to ensure development and delivery of products within allotted timeline and budget. The USA team focuses on the retail product development aspects and the China team will work with supplier aspects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  

Product Knowledge

  

• Work with China Manufacturing facilities to develop specified product that meet both price and quality of developed product specifications

• Ensure products being quoted by Manufacturers meets Retail testing standards and samples be submitted align with the specifications

• Review sample to ensure product meet all specifications before sending to the US

      

Product Development

  

• Ability to work with manufacturing facilities to ensure new product are presented to ATC prior to our competitors

• Able to walk trade shows on Asia and identify emerging trends

• “Out of the Box thinker” who can identify new techniques in fabrications, dyeing and finishing and how it can be used for basic bedding

      

Sourcing/Manufacturing Expertise

  

• Identify new factories capable of delivering products the meet ATC/Retailer standards

• Strong understanding of fabric constructions and fabric processing to be able to offer recommendations to both US PD and manufacturers in achieving needed cost and quality

• Ability to assess factory capabilities to ensure they are capable of delivering products on time, to approve standards and at the agreed upon price

• Instill ATC standard requirements to ensure factories remain on par with delivering product to specifications

        

 Communications

  

• Work as the liaison between US PD and Manufacturing facilities

• Communicate any concerns or issues to US PD team to reconcile in a timely manner

• Act as the PD problem solver in China to resolve product issues

• Translate all product specifications from PD US to Chinese

• Work closely with China QC and Purchasing to ensure deliveries are on time and up to Retail/ATC specifications

• Communicate to US PD raw material, labor and transportation trends and the implications of these with regard to product costs

            

 Negotiation Skills

  

• Ensure ATC secures the best prices for all products sourced out of China

• Ability to challenge Manufacturers on quotes by a clear understanding of component and packaging costs

• Understand fabric utilization metrics to identify price inconsistencies by size

      

 Essential Qualifications:

  

• Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Product Development

• Must have intimate knowledge of fabrics and the weaving and dying process.

• Knowledge in packaging

• Knowledge of Retail Product Requirements

• Fluent in English both written and verbal is a must
