Duties & Responsibilities
1. Acts as liaison among science, IT staff and subject experts to understand business issues, contributes to data extraction plan.
2. Takes leading role in developing predictive models, statistical analyses, optimization procedures, monitoring processes, data quality analyses, and score implementations supporting AIG business.
3. Leads overall project design and delivery with other Science team members and stakeholders.
4. Leads the efforts in validating, tracking, and monitoring delivered projects.
5. Leads on the tasks of producing robust documentation to ensure reliability of results.
6. Communicates with influence outside of Science team; presents effectively to mid-sized groups.
7. Manages projects (potentially several at once) through-cycle, including scoping, resourcing, budgeting etc. through to impact; resolve scheduling conflicts.
8. Develops deep understanding and practical application of various advanced statistical technique (ex: Generalized Linear Model, survival, mixed effect models and other statistics techniques, like GBM, Elastic Net and Decision Tree) used in the insurance industry.
9. Contributes to the broader Science department through participation in peer reviews, modeling forums, and ad hoc project collaboration.
10. Responsible for managing day to day operations of Asia Science Team in Shanghai. Reviews, directs, guides, inspires the analytical work of junior staff.
11. Works with Director of Science to ensure project completion within agreed time frames and end-client satisfaction.

1. Completes assignments of multiple projects on time and with high quality
2. Effectively works remotely from a core team and communicate effectively with team members and internal clients
3. Ensures high levels of productivity and utilization of the talented team members on the Shanghai Science team
Candidate Specification
Technical Skills and Expertise
1. Master degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, operational research or equivalent quantitative degree with minimum 3-6 years of experience in statistical modeling in insurance or financial industry. phd preferred but not necessary.
2. Capability to lead complex substantive analysis, including statistical models on large data sets.
3. Insurance industry experience a plus
4. Strong communication skills, communicate with influence outside of Science team, presents effectively to mid-sized groups
5. Project management skills.
6. High level of practical experience with statistical modeling software such as SAS, R, etc.
7. Programming experience with python, SQL
8. Interest in learning about new cloud/open source platforms and technologies including AWS, Elasticsearch, R markdown, Plotly, Github
9. English language proficiency is a must and Japanese language a plus
10. Good written and verbal communication skills, including proven ability to write clear concise reports and explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
11. Self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative and proactive thinking in a fast paced dynamic environment.
