Position Title: Primary Years Programme Coordinator
Reporting to Head of School
Duties
All teachers are subject to the conditions of employment, as described in the Teaching Contract.
Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree and teaching qualification
2. Preferably an advanced degree in teaching or educational administration
3. At least five years teaching experience
4. Preferably experience as a PYP Coordinator
5. Ability to work well in a multi-cultural workplace.
Responsibilities
Curriculum Leadership as PYP Coordinator
1. Liaise with the other language [Chinese or English] PYP Coordinator on all matters related to the curriculum leadership.
2. Benchmarking the curriculum as per IB standards and practices.
3. Updating the curriculum in line with the IB PYP curriculum framework.
4. Providing all teachers in the school with an effective professional development programme. This includes IB-recognised regional face-to-face and online workshops, and in-school workshops.
5. Developing and revisiting the curriculum annually to align with global standards, including Chinese National Curriculum requirements.
6. Collecting evidence of reflection in student work, process journals, portfolios and self-assessment documents.
7. Evaluating action projects and service learning outcomes.
8. Evaluating staff reflection on PYP units and unit planning.
9. Supervising the completion of the POI each year.
10. Monitoring moderation and assessment feedback regularly.
11. Tracking schemes of work and teaching plans.
12. Providing a year-end report on the PYP Curriculum.
13. Planning for the Exhibition including the allocation of supervisors.
14. Preparing for Authorization and/or Evaluation of the programme.
15. Classroom Teaching time for a maximum of 50% of a full time teacher’s teaching load.
16. Leading the development of vertical articulation for the subject groups, which includes planning for the PYP aims and objectives, concepts, global contexts, knowledge and skills.
17. Leading the regular revision of written curriculum.
18. Developing and coordinating assessment strategies.
19. Organizing standardization of assessments within the subject group.
Strategic and Budgetary Planning as the Primary Curriculum Coordinator
1. Liaise with the other language [Chinese or English] PYP Coordinator on all matters related to strategic and budgetary planning.
2. Establishing the purposes and objectives of the department yearly plan.
3 Creating and reviewing yearly/semester action plan for the department aligned with school’s Mission, Vision, Core Value and Culture Statement.
4. Allocating teaching resources for department requirements & establishing priorities.
5. Planning textbooks and teaching aids budget for department.
6. Allocating meeting time for planning and timetabling.
7. Planning budgets for special department events.
Development and Deployment of Staff:
9. Recruiting staff with HR and Head of School.
10. Providing individual teacher support.
11. Assessing professional development needs and orientating and training new teachers.
12. Establishing professional relationships with all staff in the school and fostering their career development.
13. Lesson observations, checklists, work reviews of staff.
14. Ensuring staff participation in workshops and IB networking sessions.
15. Allocating duties to staff within and outside school.
16. Planning in-house workshops for staff.
17. Regular communication with staff on internal matters.
18. Arranging substitution for staff.
19. Promoting collaboration within staff.
20. Appointing subject leaders and organising regular meetings to revisit the curriculum.
21. Administrative Leadership as the PYP Coordinator of the School
22. Liaise with the other language [Chinese or English] PYP Coordinator on all matters related to the curriculum.
23. Management of school within the spirit of the school’s Mission and Vision statement.
24. Undertaking the professional appraisal of all teachers following the agreed school-wide policy laid down by the Principal and HR.
25. Advising the Principal on school staffing, budgetary and facility needs.
26. Recruiting teachers in close collaboration with the Principal and HR
27. Undertaking the provision of all teaching materials necessary for the teachers, in their teaching
28. Meeting regularly with teaching staff and involving them directly in aspects of curriculum design, curriculum review, and behavioural expectations of students.
29. Implementing a process of reporting regularly to parents on student academic and social development.
30. Representing the school at educational conferences.
31. Appraisals, work reviews and feedback for improvement to teachers and management.
32. Supporting admissions procedures of the school.
