Duties and Responsibilities:
The Product Support Engineer will act as the key technical intermediary between the customer and the company and will be required to have detailed technical knowledge of the SPI product portfolio.
Key duties include:
Undertake the service and repair of the full portfolio of laser products.
Develop and write support and service materials pertaining to new product development activities.
Develop and support implementation of service equipment for local service centers.
Offering support (telephone, email and/or on-site) in event of an SPI laser fault across Asia including fault finding, field repairs and installation of product upgrades.
Providing commissioning support to integrators – particularly in electronic and power supply related issues.
Write and communicate failure reports to customers.
Participating in the global Product Support response help line.
Primary role will be within the service centre in Shanghai however be able to travel to customer sites across China - travel may reach 40% and be at short as well as planned notice.
By exception the candidate may be asked to travel to other regions within Asia to offer customer support.
Engage with local electronic suppliers as required to support engineering investigation and improvements.
Cooperate with colleagues in the Product Support department with additional, special tasks, including:
Providing support for the evaluation process at the start and during the evaluation, including head installation.
Training the distributor network in service and support.
Supporting the generation of customer facing documentation and generation of training manuals and spare parts lists.
Participation in the development of new products and New Product Introduction (NPI).
Cooperate with other departments at SPI:
Feedback product enhancements and requests into Engineering and Business Development teams.
Support accessories/evaluation products with field based inputs given into appropriate SPI engineering channels.
Support installed base of products to contribute towards generation of repeat business.
Work with SPI’s service & repair team & SPI distributors to ensure customer satisfaction.
Required Experience:
The successful candidate must be able to train in the UK for an initial period of up to three months (with visits back to China as appropriate / required)
Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer from an electronics based, high value capital equipment sector, such as medical device, laboratory device, semiconductor or other high value instrumentation environments
At least 2+ years experience working in a Product Support team or Service & Repair role is essential.
Experience in a customer-interfacing role is essential.
Previous experience with lasers, especially fiber lasers, including fault finding at a system level, is preferable but not essential.
Previous experience working with high power lasers is preferable.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or higher in a related electronics or electronic engineering discipline is required.
English – excellent written and spoken English is required.
Personal Profile:
Good organization and planning skills.
Strong communication/customer facing skills.
Able and willing to travel overseas at short notice.
Innovative and proactive self-starter.
Able to work under pressure.
Prepared to respond to customer enquiries outside of usual working hours.
