Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Primary objective of this position:
To design mechanical locking products, window & door hardware.

Reporting to: General Manager (China) & New Product Development Team

Location: Ningbo (China) Language Skills: English

The successful candidate will be joining an experienced team, and will be comfortable meeting tough end-user demands for safety, security and convenience.

Main Duties:

To design mechanical locking solutions for the Maxim Hardware brands using a product specification from cradle to grave.

To implement the processes as defined in the Company Quality System, participating in the review of designs both formally and informally, ensuring that designs meet specification and that all products are safe to manufacture, install and operate.


To provide mechanical designs across a number of product groups, working closely with prototype and test resources to ensure that design verification is achieved.

To work closely with other areas within the Maxim Group and overseas suppliers, to develop new products.

To be able to provide technical support to all business functions as required meeting the business objectives.

To work in compliance with Company Rules and Procedures

To be able to produce conceptual designs using sketches and 3D CAD

Ability to validate conceptual designs & solutions with peer review

Produce 3D CAD models and drawings that can be used for prototyping, tooling, drawings for final production of product using Solidworks and Inventor CAD systems

Produce prototype solutions using any Rapid Prototyping techniques

Project manage the design phase of the project

Carry out stress analysis on chosen designs using hand calculations and Solidworks Cosmos

Carry out VAVE activities to support the business on existing products

Carry out modifications to existing product ranges to support the production cells

Principal Accountabilities :

Ability to use Solidworks and Inventor CAD software, modelling and drawings including PDM works and Intralink drawing management systems

Deliver effective product designs requiring strong ergonomic consideration and sensitivity to brand images that meet the specification on time and to budget constraints.

Deliver testable designs including performance, strength, durability, environmental, safety, and including preparation of mechanical validation and acceptance test procedures

Provide focussed design support to manufacturing cells as required.

The integrity of design and /or specification of a wide range of mechanical locking solutions including complex mechanisms, metal, plastic, die castings, stamped forgings, pressed and lasercut sheetmetal components.

Detailed attention to component and product costs. Maintaining knowledge of costs as the design evolves in order to provide estimated costings for proposed projects.

Compliance with industry and environmental regulatory standards.

Maintain effective working contacts with suppliers and groups/outsourced/sub contract design staff/resources.

Input to design reviews to “buy off” designs against specified criteria including functionality, performance, reliability, maintainability and cost.

Effective modification of existing products and the processing of associated modification documentation.

Ability to carry out design FMEAs with peers


Education / Qualifications:

Mechanical Engineering Degree BEng BSc

Experience :

FEA
FMEA
Rapid prototyping
Good understanding of mechanical design principals with a proven track record.
Rich experience in building hardware products' design
