As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of the Industrial Automation Division and Process Industries Business Units (BU) based in Modderfontein. ABB is the World leader in Industrial Automation (IA) division delivers integrated solutions for control, plant optimization, and industry-specific application knowledge and services to help process industry customers worldwide to meet their critical business needs in the areas of operational profitability, capital productivity, risk management and global responsibility. These industries include oil and gas, power, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, metals, cement, minerals, marine and turbocharging.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible to develop advanced actuator, web imaging and sensor/measurement products for the global Pulp and Paper Market. You must be must be a self-motivated, creative individual who has demonstrated the ability to develop innovative design solutions to complex engineering problems and contribute positively to multidisciplinary teams. This individual must also be able to complete designs within the timeframes and budgets consistent with the established product development plan.

Your Tasks as a Mechanical Engineer will include the following:

? Working with R&D and Marketing teams to produce new QCS product concepts and plans.
? Providing detailed designs for new products; responsibility for full product lifecycle.
? Producing professional design, test, product and project documentation.
? Coordination with the R&D regarding product introduction, engineering changes, product fabrication, assembly, test, quality and delivery.
? Travelling to customer sites to support new product introductions.
? Providing task estimates, project plans and regular progress reporting.
? Supporting customers and manufacturing by troubleshooting product/application/manufacturing issues.
? Processing Engineer Change Orders (ECOs) in a timely and collaborative fashion.
? Liaising with suppliers, external research institutes/houses, design and manufacturing partners.

Ideally you will have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering coupled with 3 or more years of experience working in a project or product development environment. You should have a proven track record of solving diverse industrial engineering problems through design, In-depth knowledge of 3D CAD modelling tools required (Pro/ENGINEER preferred), troubleshooting skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills along with a positive and flexible attitude, self-motivated and your experience in quality oriented environment to ISO standards will make you an ideal match. In addition, working experience with the following would be advantageous:
? FMEA/DFMEA/Risk Assessment
? Design for Assembly and Test (e.g. ATE)
? CFD/Thermal Analysis/FEA
? Experience using PDM/PLM packages (Windchill)
