Responsibilities:

? Advance discovery programs with focus on synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry. Candidate should demonstrate broad and versatile technical / scientific expertise in hit-to-lead and late stage drug discovery programs and apply those skills to the delivery of clinical candidates. He / She will lead the effort of generating original ideas, demonstrate creative thinking to solve difficult problems, and work effectively with scientists from other functional areas within AbbVie (structural biology, computer modeling, biology, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, drug safety etc.) as well as external collaborators to achieve project goals.
? Provide leadership and supervision of scientists, participate in establishing project goals, defining short and long-term scientific strategies, and contribute to the generation of project-related documents, presentations and patents. Provide updates and lead discussions in a global team setting, formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments to address key programs issues.
? Play active role in communicating and collaborating with other R&D sites to advance projects to key milestones. The candidate must be willing to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team in an exciting, fast-paced environment
? Participate in scientific and management activities at the R&D center including project planning, project management, recruiting, staff training, and site operations, as necessary.

Requirements:
? Minimum requirement is Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic or Medicinal Chemistry with 10+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical research, track record of career advancement in the pharmaceutical industry.
? Excellent oral/written English communication and presentation skills with proactive communication with global teams
? Experience in leading medicinal chemistry efforts and in supervising scientists
? Previous experience in both hit-to-lead and late stage drug discovery programs delivering clinical candidates
? Track record in peer-reviewed publications documenting innovative contributions in organic synthetic or medicinal chemistry.
? Highly motivated and flexible to work in a dynamic environment in China. Ability to work independently and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
? Hands-on lab experience in synthetic organic chemistry including experience with advanced structure-based drug design
? Supervisory experience required. Ability to communicate in Chinese is strongly preferred

Location: AbbVie China R&D Center is located in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park East Area, Pudong New District, Shanghai. Relocation to Shanghai is required for the positions.
