Responsibilities:
Thermo Fisher Bioprocess Design Center is dedicating to provide a wide range of bioprocess related services. An upstream team is required to be constructed, with recognized capability to perform media optimization, cell-line development and upstream process development for mAb/vaccine/cell therapy/gene therapy services. The candidate should be in an upstream team to complete the projects and to fulfill the requirements according to BDC’s development.
The scientist will plan and carry out laboratory experiments and prepare documents as a project leader or project team member. He will work in a laboratory environment and should be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.
-As a project leader or project team member, designs experimental plans with guidance, executes experiments, takes experiment notes, analyzes data, generates laboratory protocols, and contributes to technical reports and summaries.
-Maintains knowledge of principles and theories through familiarity with competing technologies and/or products and current scientific literature.
-Facilitate to establish upstream platform with capability to perform media development and process development for mAb/vaccine/cell therapy/gene therapy, by setting-up qualified labs, validated instruments, efficient operation, and standard documents (SOPs, SMPs, records, etc.).
-Prepare material and present internally and externally when appropriate, such as at project update meetings, customer visits, scientific conferences.
-Investigates new methods and technologies, maintains accurate lab notebook to support IP protection in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher required standards.
-Collaborate with other team members to fulfill department management of BDC. Be obliged to perform personal training, weekly update, PMD and 5S.
-Support local commercial events (i.e. customer visit, training, seminar, show site operation, etc.), provide technical support to bring business benefit to the organization
-Interacts with other internal departments (i.e., Quality, Operations, Technical Services, and/or Marketing) to generate innovative custom products and applications data.
-Complies with all company safety, training, and quality regulations (e.g., ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.) and procedures.
-Performs duties with guidance from manager, may be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
-Be able to work flexible hours, and to travel domestic and overseas, maximum 30% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Sufficient degree of Biological Sciences, Bio-engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Virology or a related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and work experience, minimum with master’s degree, Ph. D. is preferred.
-Experience gained through obtaining a master's degree plus ≥ 3 years’ work experience, or a Ph.D. degree with no work experience.
-Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in cell culture process development, with demonstrated ability to deliver high quality processes and products on time, using statistical experimental design (DoE), preferably in a commercial setting.
(1) 3+ years’ experience in developing fed-batch or perfusion-based bioreactor processes, scale-up and tech transfer, proficient in operating shake flask, 1L/3L/15L glass vessel, 50L rocker, vi-cell, blood-gas analyzer, biochemical analyzer and other related instruments, and ideally experienced in operating AMBR, 50L/250L bioreactors
and / or
(2) 3+ years’ experience in cell-line development, proficient in transfection, pool evaluation, semi-solid screening, limit-dilution screening, cell bank construction, ideally experienced in operating Electroporation System, ClonePix, imaging system for limit-dilution screening
and / or
(3) 3+ years’ experience in developing serum-free media formulations for adherent and suspension adapted cells used for bio-therapeutic protein production or viral vaccine, proficient in spent media analysis, DOE, media formulation, media preparation
and / or
(4) 3+ years’ experience in process development of viral vaccine adaptation and production, proficient in adherent cell culturing in T-flask, roller bottles, cell factory, micro-carriers, and suspended cell culturing in flask and bioreactor
and
(5) Rich experience in virus inoculation and scale-up is preferred.
-Familiar with activities and key technologies required for BDC services.
-Familiar with Quality Systems and cGMP manufacturing principles.
-Understanding of program/project management.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate scientific results in a clear, concise, & accurate manner.
-Good oral and written communication skills, both in English and Mandarin.
-Proved creativity in selecting approaches and techniques for obtaining solutions.
-Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems of moderate scope.
-Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate and manage multiple project tasks.
-Must exhibit good interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Proven fast learner on new technology / knowledge / process.
Preferred Qualifications: (optional)
-Familiar with upstream instruments and products from Thermo Fisher Scientific, such as media, bioreactor, automation system.
-Working experience in similar Customer Experience/Excellent Center or CRO/CDMO is preferred.
-Experience in managing external scientific collaborations, CRO or CDMO is preferred.
-Experience coordinating with development teams outside China, i.e. US or Europe.
-Understanding of financial planning and budgeting processes.
-Experience in IND filing of at least 1 project, with successfully approved IND application.
