I. Job Summary
The Business Development Manager, Shanghai base, will be responsible for growing Catalent’s Softgel business in Mainland China. He / She will be focused on the development and penetration of the Catalent business among local Chinese companies and MNCs affiliates in China. Particular focus will be necessary in the Business Development, Marketing, Executive and New Product Development functions for the purpose of building long-term relationships and a pipeline of innovation beneficial to the companies’ brands and key categories/business units.
II. Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
· Identify Targeted Customers and Products for Catalent’s products/technologies can fill need gaps
· Establish a targeting and customer segmentation process to identify Customers and Brands/Products within their portfolio that will yield the highest volume opportunities for Catalent balanced with a high probability of success.
· Support Country GM to develop a overall Catalent China strategy
Grow Revenue:
· In a B2B environment, primarily responsible for driving sales and margin revenue growth with targeted accounts. This will involve generating and closing out new product development and licensing opportunities which will eventually lead to commercial supply; and also expanding existing business through product life cycle management, working with customers to expand business into new geographies and to look for other opportunities to drive growth.
· Financial accountability for the achievement of annual sales targets for targeted accounts for commercial revenue & margin, new products revenue, deals signed and delivering on pipeline & sales funnel targets.
Penetrate Catalent present in Targeted Customer Accounts:
· Develop and execute key global account strategies that effectively drive short and long-term growth for Catalent and our existing and potential customer base.
· Drive penetration of our current portfolio and collaborate with the customer to drive innovation to grow the business.
- Specifically penetrate the Accountable department for driving Brand Strategy and New Product development associated with Customers’ strategic growth plans
- Demonstrate Catalent’s capabilities in product development and innovation associated with an ability to deliver customers’ desired growth goals
Activities:
· Identify and build relationships with customer c-suite personnel as well as decision makers and influencers at all appropriate levels.
· Research and maintain up-to-date information regarding both customers and competition.
· Manage the day-to-day requirements of the business relationship including pricing, contract extensions/amendments, forecasting, periodic business review meetings, and other customer service related issues.
· In cooperation with R&D and Contract Management, prepare and present to customers quotations for development work and commercial supply.
· Engage internally with Catalent management, the legal department and finance in the preparation and negotiation of development agreements and commercial supply agreements.
· Cross-sell other Catalent service offerings to softgel customers. (Regulatory Consulting, Clinical Development, Dossier Filing, Modified Release Therapies, Sterile, and ODT.)
· Participate in internal sales training efforts, internal process teams, trade shows and professional associations as required.
· Stays informed of and appropriately involved in implementation progress without assuming leadership or implementation management role.
· Use both structured (e.g., CRM, forms, reporting mechanisms) and unstructured communication (e.g., e-mail, phone calls) to assure that there is a detail-oriented approach to account management with rapid response and follow through to customer inquiries, opportunities, and issues.
· Other tasks as assigned
III. Job Requirements
Ideal Experience:
· A minimum of 5+ years of Sales/trade management and or commercial business development.
· Large 3rd party management experience, with a proven track-record of penetrating the account beyond the front-line “buying” or “sourcing” function
· Proven ability to manage within a matrix organization and collaborate cross functionally.
· Undergraduate degree required, focused on commercial areas and an advanced business qualification (e.g. MBA) is a positive.
· Broad knowledge of the Pharma and H&N products industry and management of same in a global marketplace,with a focus on:
- Sales/BD and trade marketing practices,
- Pharma company needs and business model,
- Consumer Brands, Products and Business Model
- Competitive selling strategies in global markets.
- Lifecycle management: Long-Term Strategy, business Planning, and Execution
· Must be comfortable engaging both commercial and operational contacts within key customers and discussing strategic as well as tactical approaches to growing customer brands and overall business.
· Fluency is spoken and written English/Chinese is required
Preferable Experience:
· Excellent track record as a sales/BD professional and sales/BD leader – preferable.
· B2B and outsourcing, service-oriented experience in a related healthcare industry
· Worked in international assignments and has cultural savvy
