Title: Process Control Consultant – frequent travel to S. Africa, Brazil and US
Location: Datong, Shanxi Province
Report to: VP – International Manufacturing

The Position

Working with a small group of Westerners, returnees and senior managers, provide world-wide manufacturing support for the company’s international wheel manufacturing operations in Brazil, China and South Africa.

Evaluate and recommend raw materials, appropriate process methods and procedures to improve steel freight car and locomotive wheel production, coordinate process research and process development with production activities. Assists in the solution of plant manufacturing problems. Maintain a constant surveillance over manufacturing processes for the purpose of reducing and controlling costs.

The specific duties and responsibilities:

1. Evaluate and recommend raw materials, process methods and procedures to improve steel wheel operations.
2. Assist in the preparation of process specifications and operating procedures.
3. Train others in compliance with and utilization of Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma and Lean Business Systems, equipment, test methods.
4. Supervise and control expenditures on research work in connection with the development of appropriate processes and with the improvement or modification of existing processes.
5. Prepare reports on progress of research work and recommend changes or additions in present methods.
6. Trains, coaches, and mentors Six Sigma and Lean Business System concepts and management techniques to frontline and middle management.
7. Solve defective problems by sound scientific principles in research lab and plant work.
8. Investigate suggestions proposed within or outside the department.
9. Stay abreast of the latest technical data and apply to process.
10. Select and motivate a competent staff to assure an efficient, cost-effective operation.
