Job Summary:
The Area Product Owner (APO) role aim to maximize Return of Investment for the user plane area by focusing on alignment, reusability and technology leadership. The APO role is responsible to translate business value into product realization, making tactical choices.
Accountabilities
- Accountable for Area technical plan and long-term evolvement. Ensure that major system improvements are prioritized
- Accountable for adherence to Ericsson relevant requirements, standards and system improvements. Need to understand and follow development from Ericsson Group Functions and external standard organizations like 3GPP, ETSI and IETF. Make sure that SoC are produced. This is probably the major source of “minimum must have” functionality.
-Create broader context about sub-areas that can be created, removed modified over time. To be able to delegate broader responsibility than Feature by Feature to OPO’s to ensure efficient workload distribution within the Area.
-Accountable for a prioritized Area backlog
Responsibilities
Responsible for long-term content for the Area in multiple roadmaps.
Part of the longer-term perspective compared to an OPO. Good way to understand which major studies are needed (studies that are often bigger than a feature)
Create and maintain Business Case to motivate investment as part of product business case.
Important to understand that areas grow and shrink over time. Investment in an area should not be defended but motivated.
-Ensure RFx answers are aligned with Area planning
APO is a SPOC for GSN Q&A, pre-sales support and RFxs answers. Use this input to find new opportunities to add to the backlog by analyzing and understanding why customers ask for something.
-Customer, external & CU relations
l Establish and maintain a relation with personnel at the same level at selected operators and have communication with the responsible CU.
l Visit trade shows and important conferences in the area.
l Represent the product in the context of marketing and requirements
-First escalation point for OPO’s
-Can change team allocation within Area
-Should initiate larger studies by System Architects and System Managers
An APO can view the SME for the area as their team and studies as their backlog items
-Ensure roadmap and prioritized backlog for the area
Backlog handled by OPO and roadmap generated automatically from backlog. However, the APO need to ensure there is a good quality of the content. Main focus should be to review value argumentation and educate OPO’s in customer centric thinking
-Can make customer commitments for features in their Area
-Can be done by any xPO in the B-dimension (SPO, APO, OPO)
Profile/Competence:
- Solid competence and experience in Generic Product Requirement Non-Functional areas e.g. Cloud, OAM, Networking, Security, Characteristics, Provisioning/Data Model
- Solid understanding of business, product/solution and UX.
- Solid relevant working experience of product development, solution/architecture design, and technical marketing/sales.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent documentation skills.
- Good leadership.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English.
