Job Title: Quality Specialist - Electronics
Department: Quality
Direct Report: QA/QC Director (Canada)

General Description of Position:
The candidate will be responsible for:
1. inspecting and approving Incoming raw material, work-in-process assemblies and finished product.
2. inspecting for accurate, consistent detection of SMT solder paste thickness/application, component placement and solder joint defects.
3. inspecting for accurate, consistent detection of Through-hole assembly process quality.
4. Repairing and/or guiding the repair of printed circuit board assemblies.
5. documenting inspection results.

The candidate will:
1. possess keen visual acuity and knowledge of quality control, production processes and related techniques for ensuring a high degree of quality in the Surface Mount and Through-Hole Printed Circuit Board Assembly process.
2. have the skills to troubleshoot assembly issues.
3. have a high attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
4. possess knowledge of a wide variety of through-hole and surface mount parts with respect to polarity and electronic component identification.
5. Be able to read and understand assembly drawings, component identification, component polarity and assembly routings.
6. be competent and/or knowledgeable in the use of magnification aids, microscopes and
process-based inspection equipment to inspect populated printed circuit board assemblies to ensure product quality according to the applicable IPC-A-610 standard.
7. have the ability to recognize problems, whether they be due to the assembly process, component issues or other causes and to communicate those problems to the supplier for the implementation of immediate root cause analysis and corrective action.
8. possess a strong work ethic and be able to work with limited supervision.
9. have a general understanding of electronic components, electronics design and manufacturing
10. have a general understanding of production processes, equipment and tools associated with printed circuit board assembly.
11. have a general knowledge of bill of materials, assembly drawings, product specific documentation, work instructions and other related documents.

General Responsibilities and Duties:
Verify conformance of the assemblies and custom components to their specifications by:
1. ensuring product quality by approving critical materials at the Incoming Inspection Process.
2. ensuring product quality by inspecting assemblies at the different In-process inspection steps.
3. being able to detect defects such as shorts, excess or missing solder, scratches, cracks, and misplacement of components.
4. performing First Piece Inspections for Surface Mount and Through-hole assemblies.
5. performing Final inspection.

6. Record type and quantity of defects in data base.
7. Perform the applicable Functional and In-circuit testing of printed circuit board assemblies.
8. Use inspection and manual assembly tools and equipment related to the production of printed circuit board assemblies.
9. Understand and follow verbal and written assembly instructions.
10. Read and interpret kitting sheets, assembly drawings, product specific documentation and work instructions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. IPC-A-610, current revision or IPC J-STD-001.
2. General knowledge of IPC-A-610 classifications.
3. General knowledge of Component Identification.
4. Strong follow through on respecting deadlines.
5. Strong English verbal/written communication as well as organization/interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to keep accurate records.
7. Personable and professional demeanor.
8. Computer literacy in Word, Excel and Email systems.
9. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
10. Ability to be patient in challenging situations.

Experience Required:
A minimum of 5 years experience in the printed circuit board assembly industry.

Language competency:
ENGLISH:
Reading / Writing: good or higher. Listening / Speaking: good or higher.

MANDARIN:
Reading / Writing: excellent. Listening / Speaking: excellent.
