Key accountabilities:
1) Health & Safety: Ensure zero harm, zero injuries and zero environmental infringements. Identify and report any unsafe acts, safety infringements or hazards in accordance with Company procedures. Participate in Safety Committees to ensure the business is progressing its SmartSite rating and to ensure safety practices are in place, resulting in an injury free workplace. Complete safety observations. Support the business to maintain and improve its ACC partnership status. Lead health and safety programmes to address priority safety issues. Follow site safety induction standards at all times.Ensure plant design and improvement is in line with all relevant standards and guideline.
Labratory and harardous chemical management.
2)Technical Advice, Support and Training
Ensure relevant technical issues are solved efficiently and effectively
Provide Technical advice, assistance and training to the manufacturing plants in the areas of melting, forehearth, combustion system, refractories etc…
Oversee the melting system from batch feed to dust collection and delivery to fiberisers
Provide technical assistance to Sales and Marketing Team and Customers
Manage Plant risk management programmes
Prepare and review manufacturing specifications
Manager laboratory and testing processes
3) Quality
Monitor and audit plant performance in areas of productivity, quality and efficiency
Set methods and targets for product quality to ensure it meets or exceeds specification
Recommend improvements to process and product
4) Product Development
Provide technical input to product development ideas
Research and develop improvements to products
Ensure new plant equipment is developed and introduced as needed to continually improve the quality of production and the operating efficiency of each plant
Ensure production and process development has a focus on reducing costs whilst maintaining quality
5) Continuous Improvement
Ensure continual improvement of plant performance / production processes
Keep up to date with market knowledge so as you can become sufficiently competent to provide useful input to short and long term plans
6) Staff Leadership and Management
Ensure clear, accurate and timely communication.
Drive a positive and engaged culture
Develop, manage and provide direction and support for employees to improve their performance and develop their potential.
Ensure effective selection, leadership and training of staff
Build and maintain positive and effective relationships with all teams, including logistics, technical, finance, sales and marketing employees.
Ensure succession plans are in place for key skilled roles, including appropriate transfer and/or recording of site specific knowledge
Qualification and Experience:
· Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or related fields.
· + 10 years experience. A background in Paint manufacture is desirable.
· Strong Health and Safety systems implementation experience.
· Significant Project Management Experience.
· Laboratory and Hazardous Chemical Management.
· Familiarity with ISO, External Accreditations, ERP BPC knowledge, Microsoft packages.
· A sound knowledge of Microsoft packages, including intermediate excel.
· Able to partner at all levels in the business.
· Strong influencing, negotiating and interpersonal communication skills.
· Experience in improvement activities and metrics.
