POSITION TITLE: Engine Installation Design Engineer
REPORTS TO: Module Lead Engine Installation, EAT and Cooling Package



I. POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this job is to design and develop diesel engines installation and related subsystems (Air, Cooling, Exhaust, Fuel, Driving Belts and Closures) to meet projects and markets requirements always focusing for durability, reliability, quality and serviceability. The job holder will support all current and future projects included on engines installation team scope.



MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY: KEY MEASUREMENT:

? Conceive and provide practical design solutions for engines installation functional requirements ? On time delivery of new parts design
? Preparation and delivery of complex product designs using CAD system (Pro/E) ? AMPIP gate reviews met
? Conduct design calculations, simulation and analysis to back up design solutions ? Robust designs & risk assessment
? Work with testing, workshop & suppliers to bring about timely introduction of designs ? Design validation completed on time
? Provide guidance and technical support to other departments as required ? Good cross function working relationship



II. FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

The role requires experience and knowledge in the domain of tractor and diesel engines installation design (Air, Cooling, Exhaust, Fuel, Driving Belts, and Closures) and design review experience. Project management skills are a plus. The role is task driven and the job holder must be capable of seeing a task/project through from beginning to end, therefore the job holder must be capable of working semi-autonomously. There will be strong emphasis on cost control and the job holder will be expected to develop knowledge in this area if not already acquired. The role includes technical decision making actions and the ability to perform design calculations when necessary. Application of general engineering theory will be required and the experience and use of CAD (Pro/E – 2D/3D) systems and PLM (PDMLink) is essential.


III. BUSINESS EXPERTISE:
The job holder is expected to maintain a good level of understanding of the business. The job holder must have a good understanding of the purchasing, manufacturing and quality function to the degree where they can provide input to these functions. A keen interest and knowledge of the agricultural industry is required including current trends and country specific knowledge of industry institutions and developments. The job holder will be expected to attend meetings when required and able to take minutes/notes turning them into reports when needed. The job holder is expected to represent the engineering department at inter-departmental meetings or with 3rd parties such as supplier. The job holder will be expected to travel when required, either domestically or internationally.


IV. LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
No budgetary control is required but knowledge of component cost build-up is needed. No staff supervision at this level is needed but the job holder will be required to work with engineering prototype/test workshop staff in order to produce and/or validate their designs. Some direction may be necessary. The job holder must be able to manage their own time and tasks in a manner which ensures they meet deadlines set by their manager.



V. PROBLEM SOLVING:
The job holder will be required to validate their concept design work. This may include calculations, simulation and testing. A variety of validation techniques may be needed including computer aided simulation and/or testing. The job holder is expected to take a practical approach to problem solving and use all the means at their disposal. A combination of common sense, practical skills and the latest techniques may have to be employed.

The job holder must be capable of multi step sequential problem solving and taking initiative where required. They must be able to work independently and make decisions that require initiative and judgment in order to effectively plan, organize and complete various work assignments.


VI. NATURE OF IMPACT
This role is intended to have a positive impact on the business in terms of timely completion of projects and product to market. The job holder therefore also has a responsibility to help maintain AGCO’s expected quality standards. The job holder is expected to work semi-autonomously and actively seek out the work required to be done. The job holder is expected to make suggestions for improvement and use their initiative at all times in order to progress the objectives and goals of the company. The job holder is responsible for the tasks allocated to them by their line manager and must execute them to a satisfactory conclusion.



VII. AREA OF IMPACT:
This role principally has an impact on the engineering function of the business and our ability to provide design solutions and therefore getting product to market in good time.

VIII. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
The job holder must be capable of direct (face to face) and indirect (Email, telephone etc…) communication with personnel within and outside of the company at all levels from shop floor staff to senior management. The job holder must be capable of expressing technical ideas, solutions and processes in Mandarin in spoken and written form. The ability to speak and write a basic level of English is required and the desire to improve their level of English is a must.

The job holder must be able to accept change and respond appropriately. They must be flexible and willing to accept a variety of tasks as assigned.

IX. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master degree is a plus)
Experience in design and testing on/off-highway vehicles (Construction, Agricultural & industrial sectors) (3+ years)
Experience in Engines Installation or Engines design (Emissions compliant and after treatment knowledge is a plus)
Experience in 2D/3D design (3+ years) Top Down design is a plus
Experience running design reviews and DFMEA,
Ability to communicate in English – Written and spoken at intermediate level
Trained in the use of CAD (Pro/E) software (3+ years)
Computer literate (MS office, Windows). Advanced MS Excel skills are a plus
