Job Description State the primary function or overall purpose of your position.

Eaton’s Global Research and Technology (GRT) – China located in Shanghai, has an exciting and rewarding position of a Manager of Control Systems and Solutions (CSS). This role is a hybrid role of individual technical expert (80%) and manager of people (20%), The incumbent will be responsible for managing a team of highly skilled scientists and engineers (all PhD level) specializing in System Modeling & Controls, Machine Learning and PHM areas with a wide range of experience, with the principal goal of identifying, developing, and justifying commercialization of significant growth opportunities for diverse Eaton businesses. Strong team management skill, project management skill and business acumen are critical for this position. The successful candidate will be directly reporting to the Head of GRT – China in Shanghai, and functionally report to GRT Global Technology Director of CSS in USA.

The manager should stimulate the search for creative technology advances in the area of Control Systems and Solutions, the identification of significant business opportunities to leverage those advantages, and drive the realization of those opportunities. The manager will be responsible for developing and implementing our “In the Region, For the Region” strategy, and identifying opportunities to drive Eaton’s growth both globally and in particular APAC/China region. The manager will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development effort under his/her control, as well as responsible for the management of customer relations (Eaton business leaders & stakeholders, especially in APAC/China region). In addition to the above responsibilities, this individual must work closely and drive synergies with GRT operations in US, India, and Europe, and collaborate with various product teams, application engineering, divisional engineering, and the front-end commercial teams. This position is further responsible for developing & maintaining relationships with external technical community and academia. The manager will provide guidance, coaching and development of the technical staff; selection and retention of employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Champion global technology realization programs utilizing our internal PRELaunch and PROLaunch processes including Gate Reviews, Technology Reviews, and Project Reviews.

Direct the development of advanced technology projects, monitor achievements and review progress. Collaborate with Program Management Office in the development of detailed project plans. Lead globally diverse cross-functional project teams effectively.

Monitor & report overall performance of responsible projects. Responsible for periodic Project Status Reports, Quarterly Reports and other reports using specified reporting templates.

Train, develop and motivate subordinates to achieve their professional goals and review their accomplishments.

Contribute to development of global strategies for technology roadmaps that are linked to and supportive of the overall GRT Strategy.

Implement policies and procedures on the safeguarding of proprietary engineering matters and monitors adherence.

Foster an environment for creativity while promoting the generation of value added intellectual property. Maintain and defend existing patents that cover the technology needs of the businesses.
Find and incorporate best practices in assigned technology area from outside Eaton Corporation. Cultivate and manage relationships with institutions of advanced learning and maintain a linkage to leading peer corporations and universities to accomplish this.
Lead and develop employees. Fully utilize those resources to meet objectives. Facilitate global communication and cooperation between locations.
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements) SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Education and Skills required to meet position qualifications
· MS degree in Engineering, specializing in related fields with 7+ years of industry experience – required.
· Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas is required: classic & modern control theory; robust & multivariable controls; fault diagnostics; system identification & optimization; data mining and classification.
· Deep understanding of new product/technology development/introduction process – required.
· Strong project management skill and program management experience – required.
· Strong business and customer acumen – required.
· Excellent English communication (oral and written) and presentation skills – required.
· Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – required.
· Deep domain expertise in hydraulic, electric, or mechanical power – required.

Preferred Specialized Knowledge (not required to be qualified for position):
· PhD in related fields with 5+ years of industry experience – preferred.
· Experience of directly or functionally managing PhD level technical teams – preferred.
· Proven track record in taking technologies from concepts to demonstrating product applications – preferred.
· Familiar with MATLAB/Simulink tools – preferred.
·Experience in renewable/alternative energy, energy storage, power distribution system, vehicle, hydraulic and aerospace industries – preferred.
· Certified DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt – preferred.
· Overseas experience (e.g., degrees, exchange research program, working experience, etc.) – preferred.
· Strong technical publication and invention record – preferred.
