Job Description Eaton’s Global Research and Technology (GRT) – China has an exciting and rewarding position of an Engineering Specialist /Program Manager in Power Conversion and Motor Control to initiate and lead innovation programs, identify market opportunities, evaluate and develop new technologies, develop business cases, acquire resources and internal/external funding, lead customer relationships, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and external customers. A unique blend of broad technical knowledge and strong business acumen is required to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will be directly reporting to the Global Technology Platform Manager of Power Conversion and Motor Control. This position can be based in Shanghai or Shenzhen.
The incumbent will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development effort under his/her control, as well as responsible for the management of customer relations (Eaton business leaders & stakeholders, especially in APAC/China region). The individual will be responsible for implementing our “In the Region, For the Region” strategy, and identifying opportunities to drive Eaton’s growth both globally and in particular APAC/China region. In addition to the above responsibilities, this individual must work closely and drive synergies with GRT operations in US, India, and Europe, and collaborate with various product teams, application engineering, divisional engineering, and the front-end commercial teams. This position is further responsible for developing & maintaining relationships with external technical community and academia.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Identify, analyze, and validate advanced power conversion and motor control technologies in broad areas, such as power electronics; energy storage; alternative power generation and distribution; motor control; vehicle electrification; aerospace electrification; hydraulics electrification; and LED lighting.
B. Initiate and lead global technology realization programs utilizing our internal PRELaunch and PROLaunch processes including Gate Reviews, Technology Reviews, and Project Reviews
C. Participate in multiple product or technology strategy development in Eaton Business Units. Take leadership role in Technology Platform strategy development.
D. Lead technology development projects and indirectly manage teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (Divisions and Universities)
E. Create project plans, manage budgets and resources, and deliver results on-budget and on-schedule.
F. Initiates new BU stakeholder relationships leading to concrete projects. Demonstrated good working relationship and act as point of contact with Eaton regional and global businesses.
G. Manage multi-cultural distributed teams on multi-disciplinary research and product development.
H. Identify, initiate and manage projects with universities and research institutes (both China and overseas).
I. Support department and technology managers to build the organizational capability in power conversion and motor control technologies. Instruct and coach junior GRT engineers in global regions.
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements) SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Education and Skills required to meet position qualifications
·MS degree in Engineering, specializing in related fields with 7+ years of industry experience – required.
·Demonstrated technical expertise in power conversion, motor control, and diagnostics – required.
·Profound understanding of electrical power systems (conventional & alternative electrical power generation, power distribution, power conversion, electromechanical loads) – required.
·Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas: power electronics; energy storage; alternative power generation and distribution; motor control; vehicle electrification; aerospace electrification; hydraulics electrification; and LED lighting.
·Understanding of new product/technology development/introduction process – required.
·Program management experience – required.
·Good English communication (oral and written) and presentation skills – required.
·Strong technical publication and invention record – required.
Preferred Specialized Knowledge (not required to be qualified for position):
·PhD in related fields with 5+ years of industry experience – preferred.
·Experience of directly or functionally managing PhD level technical teams – preferred.
·Experience in technology strategy or roadmap development – preferred.
·Proven track record in taking technologies from concepts to demonstrating product applications – preferred.
·Strong business and customer acumen – preferred.
·Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – preferred.
·Experience in renewable/alternative energy, energy storage, power distribution system, vehicle, hydraulic and aerospace industries – preferred.
·Certified DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt – preferred.
·Overseas experience (e.g., degrees, exchange research program, working experience, etc.) – preferred.
