I. POSITION PURPOSE:
The Senior Design Engineer position will support BCC sourcing projects following the BCC Sourcing Process, ensuring that suppliers understand AGCO’s drawings and specifications, supporting Technical Reviews and Kick-off Meetings with receiving sites, as well as technical changes during the project life cycle. The candidate will be recruited to primarily support BCC on a full time basis; if however the work load is not maintained high, the candidate will be required to work within other Engineering functions to support or supervise other engineering projects based on their experience/skills.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Review RFQ drawings and specifications and answer supplier’s technical questions.
Support Technical Reviews (TRs) with receiving sites and suppliers:
- Review suppliers’ TR presentations together with the SQE, incl. material substitution and supplier questions to be prepared for the TR
- Pro-actively support the TRs and technical discussions and problem resolution
- Approve or deny TR / supplier technical capability to produce quoted part, together with the SQE
Support Kick-off Meetings (KOMs) with receiving sites and suppliers.
Support Supplier Readiness Review (SRR) audits and Technical Process Audits (TPA) upon request.
Act as liaison with global AGCO site engineering functions in order to establish technical requirements and testing/validation parameters for components.
Support technical changes during the project life cycle.
Maintain access to latest AGCO technical specifications and standards.
Maintain a list of site-approved material substitution as basis for future substitution requests.

II.FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
The role requires experience in the domain of Engineering including cost reduction, component sourcing and localization. The role is task driven and dictated by the current sourcing focus on particular commodities. The role is expected to include knowledge and application of project management and technical decision making albeit in an advisory capacity. The role is also procedural in that the engineer will be expected to provide input at different stages of the sourcing process as required. Application of general engineering theory will be required.


III. BUSINESS EXPERTISE:
The job holder is expected to maintain a good level of understanding of the business. The job holder must have a good understanding of the purchasing function and quality function to the degree where they can provide input to these functions. A keen interest and knowledge of the agricultural industry is required including current trends and country specific knowledge of industry institutions and developments.


IV. LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
No budgetary control is required but knowledge of cost control and management of related engineering expenses is necessary. Guidance of staff is needed relating to engineering matters and supervision of staff may be required.


V. PROBLEM SOLVING:
Problem solving will mainly be in the domain of technical issues such as overcoming mismatch of technical data or capability between requirements of AGCO site engineering and the supplier. This will require novel solutions to be provided by job holder and/or compromise solutions. The job holder will be required to assess the capability of supplier and/or service provider (3rd party laboratories etc...) and make judgment calls on their suitability to manufacture certain parts and/or provide alternative design features subject to AGCO site engineering approval


VI. NATURE OF IMPACT
This role is intended to have a positive impact on the business in terms of timely completion of sourcing projects and therefore cost savings. The role is also expected to help develop and maintain an accurate and fluid flow of communications between AGCO sites and Chinese suppliers. The job holder therefore also has a responsibility to help maintain AGCO's expected quality standards. The job holder is expected to work semi-autonomously and actively seek out the work required to be done. The job holder is expected to make suggestions for improvement and use their initiative at all times on order to progress the objectives and goals of the company. The job holder is responsible for the tasks allocated to them by their line manager and must execute them to a satisfactory conclusion.


VII. AREA OF IMPACT:
This role principally has an impact on the purchasing/sourcing function of the business but also impacts the quality function.
VIII. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
The job holder must be capable of effective direct (face to face) and indirect (Email, telephone etc...) communication with personnel within and outside of the company at all levels from shop floor staff to senior management. The job holder must be capable of expressing technical ideas, solutions and processes in English and Mandarin in spoken and written form


IX. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
? Minimum college graduate with 10+ years experience in design and testing of casting and machining parts or Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years experience in design and testing of casting and machining parts (Masters Degree considered a plus)
? Experience in working with overseas locations of European or American companies, or with European or American invested companies in China
? Chinese mother tongue
? Fluent in English - written and spoken
? Trained in the use of CAD software (2+ years)
? Computer literate - MS office
