Role Summary
The ETL/DB Engineer is responsible for analyzing the business requirements and the design to develop and implement highly efficient, scalable and robust ETL processes and data warehouse databases. Senior engineers will be responsible for designs of ETL jobs and data warehouse datamarts under guidance from the data warehouse architect as required

Reports to: Team Manager
Role Responsibilities
Work closely with the Data Warehouse Architect and Analytics Analysts to understand business requirements, providing expert knowledge on ETL solutions
Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to implement the required ETL jobs
Evaluate and design data collection, data staging, data movement, analytics delivery, data quality and archiving strategies
Perform data profiling, source-target mappings, ETL development, SQL tunings and optimization, testing and implementation in accordance with established standards and best practices
Identify opportunities to optimize the ETL environment, implementing monitoring, quality verification and data validation processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity
Transition developed ETL jobs to the Operations & Support team
Ensure proper configuration management and change controls are implemented for your sphere of influence
Follows the defined engineering approach as documented in the Engineering Plan
Responsible for reporting status regarding assigned work, work in progress, roadblocks and any risks related to an inability to complete assigned work within established estimates, schedule and budget.
Works under the direction of the Data Warehouse Architect in conjunction with the Team Lead as appropriate
Role Qualifications
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes
Knowledge of ETL concept, design and development using tools like IBM Information Server DataStage and QualityStage, database utilities (Netezza, DB2 or SQL Server), and shell scripting (Unix or Windows)
Domain knowledge in one or more of the following areas is a plus: Banking and Financial, Insurance, Risk Management, and Marketing.
A self-motivated personality, and able to work efficiently by himself/herself, as well as in a team
Ability to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement
Good problem solver
Initiative to learn more and to grow
