Web Development Lead, Digital Publishing

Job Duties:
Impact on the business
-In partnership with the DP Management and technical consultants and co-leads to implement the strategy phase of client projects. This includes discovering, evaluating and recommending technical solution alternatives for CMS and web technologies, devising a cohesive strategy/approach for the projects
-Participates in pre-project business development activities including writing proposals, developing price estimates, and delivering pitches for new work in partnership with business stakeholders, HSBC IT and third-party agencies
-Provides technical leadership and assumes overall accountability for a successful implementation phase on all client projects. Also ensures solutions are properly architected and specified, and partners with the project management office ensure quality
-In partnership with the other web development leads and DP Management, sets direction for all aspects of our technology practice
-Leads and advances our growing processors and content management systems
-Responsible for various aspects of ongoing support and maintenance engagements
-Partners with project managers and web developers to successfully manage these client relationships

-Produce work that is in accordance with department guidelines, compliance regulations, policies and procedures regarding content and design, and industry best practices, by understanding and applying them correctly, reviewing their work and collaborating with colleagues and seeking advice from team leaders as necessary.
-Ensure a high quality of work by consistently taking responsibility for one's own work, reviewing it against quality standards, and consistently seeking to achieve zero quality errors.

Technical responsibilities
-Ability to come up with suitable application design and architecture to deliver high-end solutions
-Turns design and user interface mockups into functional websites powered by CMS
-Ensures all technology solutions are properly architected and specified
-Ensures HTML/CSS is cross-browser and standards compliant and meets accessibility/disability requirements.
-Ability to learn new technologies faster and develop web-based solutions effectively and train developers

Leadership and teamwork
-Manage and mentor a team of senior web developers, web developers, senior web production officers, web production officers and web associates, ensuring the quality of their work and -acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective resources.
-Drive the team to consistently deliver work of high quality and creativity by providing direction, consultation and technical guidance, closely monitoring quality standards and assisting the senior management of Digital Publishing in implementing various improvement initiatives.

Training, education and career development
-Ensure a steady improvement in one's skills and capabilities by supporting, planning and attending collaborative work and in-house cross-training opportunities, and assisting direct line manager in developing one's annual and quarterly training plan.
-Maintain proficiency in current versions of software used within HSBC required performing duties and seeking written certification of proficiency from line manager on at least an annual basis.
-Provide training on technical areas helping the resources to contribute efficiently and guide and consult where ever possible.
-Helps team members progress toward their professional development goals
-Defines and disseminates technology best practices

Communication responsibilities
-Delivers engaging, informative and well-organized presentations
-Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion
-Understands how to tactfully communicate difficult/sensitive information
-Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills

Requirements:
-Post-secondary education - either at the degree level or a relevant professional diploma or certificate
-7-10 years experience in a project management role, Technical lead possibly in a web development, software development environment
-Expert-level knowledge of standards-based HTML and XHTML, CSS and JavaScript; should be able to code by hand without the assistance of development editors which provide code-hinting
-Sound understanding of object-oriented JavaScript development
-Sound understanding of AJAX for both asynchronous data transfer as well as interactive user interface
implementation
-Experience developing in at least one Web application environment (ie Net, J2EE, Plone, PHP, ColdFusion etc)
-Extensive experience using source code management systems
-Online content management experience essential; knowledge of Group content management systems (SiaB, GCMS, BDE, Sitecore) is a bonus
-Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
-Requires strong organisational, interpersonal, problem solving and presentation skills
-Good interpersonal skills
-Strong command of both written and spoken English
-Strong attention to detail under pressure and ability to meet deadlines
-Structured, systematic working style
