BASICSUMMARY:

Manage and develop laboratory staff to ensure effective laboratoryoperations. Develop and implement strategies to address process improvements. Work with other operations staff to ensure efficient and accurate sample processing to meet customer needs. Ensure that alllaboratory functions are carried out within regulatory and GMP guidelines inaccordance with 21 CFR .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage activities of sequencing, ribotyping, and process development employees to ensure optimum performance of the group function.

Establish andprovide continual evaluation of work procedures and processes that supportcompany and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.

Recommend and implementprocess improvement methods to improve laboratory operations, efficiency andservice to both internal and external customers.

Responsible forpersonnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring,promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regulardirection and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing anddelivering annual performance and salary reviews.

Collaborate with qualityassurance to ensure maintenance, repairing and cleaning processes are performedon all laboratory equipment.

Collaborate with thequality and technical operations teams to report, record, and resolve out ofspecification findings, deviations, and customer complaints.

Schedule, direct, track,and document all quality control testing of raw materials and reagents. Ensurequality testing is performed in a timely fashion and designate resources tocomplete testing.

Supervise andprioritize work for Process Development Technologist to ensure assay and laboratoryimprovements.

Assist in the developmentof short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure,staffing requirements and succession plans.

Assist in thedevelopment and recommendation of departmental budget and authorize expenditures.

Develop and overseethe implementation of departmental training programs, including orientation. Supportthe policy of equal employment opportunity through affirmative action in personnelactions. ?

Ensure adherence topertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures[SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols].

Provide support forregulatory agencies as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor'sDegree (B.A. /B.S.) in Microbiology or related discipline required.

Experience: Six or moreyears related laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of education andexperience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specificeducation and experience listed above.

Certification/Licensure:None.

Other: Must havegood judgment, excellent communication and diplomacy skills… Must have strongproficiency in all technologies and laboratory techniques. Laboratory managementexperience strongly preferred.

PHYSICALDEMANDS:

While performing theduties of this job, the employee regularly stands, walks, uses arms, and useshands to grasp, finger or feel tools or controls.

Must regularlycommunicate with employees; must be able to exchange accurate information.

Specific visionabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.

WORKENVIRONMENT:

General officeworking conditions; the noise level is usually quiet.

While performing theduties of this job, the employee regularly wears protective clothing andequipment {lab coat, safety glasses and gloves) when exposed to the laboratory area

COMMENTS:

This position requiresoccasional domestic travel.
