Research, Development & Innovation Department Responsibilities:
Job Context (Nature & Scope of the Business)
? The business clearly sees a window of opportunity to build for itself a dominant market position in China in the next 3 to 5 years and aim to become the market leader
? The business in the coming years will continue to improve it's current position of strength in Premium segment and will seek improved shares in the areas of Woodcare and Project business
? Product and Service innovation will be led by leveraging the global technologies the group possesses in other parts of the geography and by working closely with Suppliers - International and National.
? Given the unique needs of the fast growing market in China, need to seek to license technologies and commercially exploit available opportunities where the group does not currently possess technical capabilities. Requirements:
Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities (kindly limit to a maximum of eight)
? Manage a small team of product formulators in producing rapid prototypes of new technologies and product ideas to demonstrate technical feasibility. Through these prototypes transfer technically feasible projects to the main product formulating groups
? Support the development of China's innovation strategy and plan and maintain close links with the marketing team to ensure continued alignment of the technical innovations programmes.
? Set project specifications and manage the interaction between China and the European/China applied research groups to ensure technologies and products are being developed to meet the regions needs. Critically, ensuring timely delivery of objectives, meeting targeted costs and good technical support in terms of potential product claims.
? Actively engage with suppliers and 3rd party organisations to develop relationships and technical programmes that give AN first mover advantage in the exploitation of new and emerging products and technologies from external sources.
? To actively engage with marketing to ensure a full and proper commercial evaluation is completed of all new opportunities.
? Provide the link between China BU and the rest of the Deco and wider AN to translate potential new technologies and product ideas into Asia.
? Ensure new technology and product platforms are fully compliant with PS/SSHE policies as part of the technology evaluation process

Functional Responsibilities/Network (kindly limit to a maximum of five)
? Leverage Global R&D capabilities within local technical Group by working closely with them on a shared agenda.
? Meet with suppliers' technical personnel to keep abreast of advances in paints technology; exploit possible technical opportunities
? To make sure all raw material and formulation used are fully compliant with global and China product stewardship government regulation
? To develop and shape China technical sustainability agenda Additional Information:
Requirements for Job (education or experience required to be able to perform this job):
? The position requires Master and above in chemistry, applied chemistry or strong technical related background.
? Have in-depth knowledge of coating industry, and sound experience of lab management for at least 10 years, including formulation management, new product development process and production process technology etc
? Has a proven track record of managing/leading technical team/project in multi-national & cross-functional environment.
? Skilled in English and be capable to interact with senior colleagues across the globe with ease
? Be a natural leader with strong inter-personal capabilities to design and implement larger agenda, supported by self developed and coached team
? Skilled knowledge in computer productivity software suite, i.e. using Power Point, Excel & Word.
? Familiar with Experiment design & Product architecture.
