JOB PURPOSE

The Paralegal supports the China Pharma IP team in procuring, managing and enforcing patent and related intellectual property (IP) rights, and is responsible for the delivery of standardized and routine administrative tasks to individual and/or small group of Patent professionals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

? Supports the patent professionals in their daily patent drafting, prosecution, re-examination and invalidation work with SIPO including completion of standard letters and forms, patent filing formalities, and organising and supervising the translation process
? Handles trade name generation, trademark certificate order from CTO, and trademark transactions in close interaction with the Global trademark attorney
? Coordinates and performs all necessary formalities needed in legal proceedings, in close interaction with internal clients and outside agents
? Manage China IP mail box including checking emails and delivering information and documents to the recipients
? Prepares and manages attorney dockets to maximise efficient working practices and minimise risk of loss of rights
? Establishes and maintains electronic files for patent, trademark and other IP cases (EDM)
? Input and remove patent and docketing information from the internal patent database, with low error rates
? Deal with administrative matters including travel/meeting scheduling, financial claiming, document processing and HR liaison
? Supports the relationship with business partners (networking): Knows the contacts and partners within and outside the team and communicates with them.
? Provides good level of knowledge and understanding of IP law and practice issues.

QUALIFICATIONS & CAPABILITIES

? Understanding of the legal and administrative aspects of a multinational pharmaceutical business
? Specialized post-academic knowledge of Chinese legal/IP practice
? Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
? Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
? Good time management skills and ability of priority settings
? Knowledge/Proficiency of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Outlook
? Maturity to deal and interact with a wide variety of people at all levels


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education: Bachelor in law or above

Desirable Education: Bachelor in pharmaceutical, chemical or biological sciences plus bachelor in law or post-academic legal/IP knowledge

Languages: Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese written & spoken (required)

Ideal Experience: > 3 years experience in MNC legal/IP department or in IP/law firm directly facing MNC clients, preferably practiced within the Pharma/Biotech Industry and experience in trademark registration
