PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
? Sets up test request priorities and liaise with Materials Lab Technician to ensure that tests are completed within a timely manner.
? To complete test requests using the available laboratory test equipment.
? Identify and order external laboratory tests when internal capability does not exist.
? Keep the Materials laboratory organized and maintain good housekeeping standards
? Work with Materials Lab Technician to ensure that the laboratory equipment is kept in good working order and calibrated.
? Identify the optimum materials for specific new product applications.
? Identify and analyse material cost saving opportunities in current or pending products.
? Identify and recommend significant material advancements for product applications.
? Participate as part of the material science consultant team for the entire business.
? Work with various support functions as required to complete projects.
? Define, promote and lead material related projects, tracking project timing, costs, and results.
? Participate in component problem analysis and resolution when requested.
? Technical writing of Materials specifications, Test work instructions and test reports.
? Remain up to date with both current and relevant material technology and the latest material processing techniques.
? Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.



KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

? Must have a minimum of five years of related experience and demonstrated accomplishments in a high tech manufacturing environment.
? Must have a proven track record of successful development implementations.
? A thorough understanding of Laboratory environment procedures
? A thorough understanding of Organic and Inorganic materials including adhesives, metal coatings, polymers, plastic injection moulding, insert moulding, adhesion to plastic substrates and anodising knowledge.
? Knowledge of Lab procedures and use of Lab equipment
? Knowledge of handling chemicals and materials
? Knowledge of critical and statistical data analysis and good working understanding of Minitab
? Ability to organise, analyse and concisely report technical data.
? Computer application skills in Microsoft office
? Good communication skills
? Good problem solving skills
