Polyurethane Applications Chemist - Flexible slab Foam

The Asia Performance Materials Technology group based in Shanghai, China, has a full-time opening for an Applications Chemist supporting new product development efforts in flexible slabstock foam applications. The candidate should have experience in flexible slabstock foam production, systems formulations, and polyurethane applications. Knowledge of silicone surfactant chemistry or amine chemistry would be preferable. The candidate must have leadership capabilities to lead development projects from concept to commercialization and be able to interface with internal and external, technical and commercial personnel globally to meet our targets. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills (both written and verbal), business acumen and the ability to work within a high-energy team. The successful candidate will develop an expertise in establishing structure property relationships and become a long term resource in this area. This will be accomplished through a variety of application and testing procedures which will include chemical handling, analytical testing, physical testing, data analysis and other techniques to predict the performance of our products in a variety of end-use applications. This is a "hands-on' position and the candidate will participate in and direct laboratory work and customer trials and will also document and communicate project results and assist in the development of appropriate intellectual property.



PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Manage and execute technical service projects and short-medium term development projects and create high quality support data and product information for the polyurethane rigid foam market to meet business targets.
2. Support and Lead new product development projects, plan & manage execution. Use scientific principles to describe and understand the results of applications testing and apply the results in project planning and execution.
3. Understand AP PUC technology and product portfolio as practiced globally; know how/when to leverage effectively. Provide technical advice and support to customers, distributors and sales in the Greater China and Asian regions.
4. Identify local and regional industry trends and potential benefits for Air Products especially in the rigid polyurethane foam markets.
5. Able to effectively work with and communicate in multifunctional teams, country, regionally and globally based
6. Use AP work process to capture ideas, develop projects proposals, have projects approved and prioritized and document accordingly.
7. Employs all AP EHS and business ethics standards in daily work
8. Provide technical support to investigate quality issues


QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

--Education background as Master of Science diploma on Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science. PhD would be preferable and knowledge of silicone chemistry or amine chemistry would be preferable.
--At least 3 to 5 years working experience in PU industry (Foam production) in technical development or manufacturing or technical service and preferably in the rigid polyurethane foam area.
--Good Chinese and English skills both in writing and speaking
--Strong interpersonal skills to be able to work in a multi-culture and diverse environment as a good team player. Also be able to keep high standards of business ethics and EHS standards
-- Open mind in communicating to internal/external customers
-- Leadership competencies including project management and execution skills and achieving success through teams.
--Good computer skill in fluently using MS office software.
--Supervision skills to enable to plan, manage, the group to be successful and sufficient
--Without any restriction for travelling in Asia on a regular basis
