Academic Operation Manager - EF Kids and Teens Franchise Operation
Reports to:
· Operations Director for Academic Team - China Franchise Operations
Brief Summary and Principal Mission:
· The Academic Operations Manager (AOM) forms part of a support team, based in the EF English First central office in Shanghai, administering to EF English First franchised schools in China. Liaising with colleagues in the support office and reporting to the Operations Director for Academic Team. The AOM assists the effective running of the academic program in each school, and production-related matters.
· The AOM will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the academic quality of the product and academic staff in designated centers in China.
· It is essential that the AOM, Project manager and Operations Director work as an effective and productive team.
Qualifications and Professional Requirements:
· Degree
· Diploma level EFL teaching qualification and/or Masters in TEFL
· 5 years' EFL teaching experience
· 5 years' experience in managerial positions in the field of TEFL
· A thorough knowledge of ELT methodology relating to General English, Early learners and Examination courses
· Demonstrate an ability to write and effectively deliver training programs in ELT methodology

· Demonstrate a history of problem-solving in multi-cultural situations
· A rational decision maker
· Demonstrate flexibility and ability to think on their feet

· Reliable and punctual, smart and well presented
· Highly developed personal organization skills
· Having a conversational Mandarin ability is a plus
Principal Location and Working Hours:
· EFBC, Shanghai, China - the job will also involve a significant amount of time travelling to cities in the People's Republic of China.
· 40 hours over five days per week - as this a position of considerable responsibility the job may involve working unsociable hours/days at short notice.
Responsibilities:
School Operations
· Ensuring that the integrity of EF courses is maintained through the full utilization of EF products and systems, through regular communications with centers and monitoring of center data
· Monitoring school operations, and consult with centers to guide centers towards greater efficiency and effectiveness in running courses. Including consulting and giving advice on maximizing group size, student retention and teacher utility
· Consulting regularly with DoS's to help maintain a high level of service delivery by ensuring that effective training and development of academic staff is being carried out.
Communications
· Relaying relevant information relating to EF products and systems to EF Centers in a timely and effective manner
· Serving as the main contact for EF Centers for all information related to EF Academic systems and products
· Liaising with World Wide Product Development to ensure that regional interests are being represented in all new EF developments, and to provide constructive feedback on academic and production issues
· Bridging communications between the Franchise Operations Team and World Wide Product Development, keeping both informed of recent developments or any other relevant information
Training
· Providing training for all new schools managers regularly throughout the year. Training needs to take into account the most up to date information on EF Policy, and conducted with appropriate pre-training and follow up steps
· Working to ensure a regular flow of information or training material related to new developments in EF Products or in ELT methodology and SLA research. Typically done through the development and/or distribution of training materials or academic articles
· Developing and organizing regional training events that provide an opportunity for local centers to cooperate and build regional support systems.
Implementation of Products, Systems and Policies
· Staying up to date on new developments within EF from World Wide Product Development and other EF Regions
· Designing effective systems and procedures for the use of new EF products within China Franchise centers, including course production models, course management procedures, and transition plans
· Work closely with Regional Directors and other supporting functions to implement new policies at schools
· Developing training plans and materials targeted at school managers that will allow centers to train front line staff and implement new products effectively
· Monitoring center level implementation and providing follow up support and troubleshooting advice
Center Visits
· Conducting onsite five-year audits of school academic operations in cooperation with Regional Operations Managers and third-party financial auditors
· Providing school opening support for all new EF Franchise center openings, including training in EF products and systems, establishing effective school operations procedures, and involvement in center opening ceremonies
· Conducting regular annual school visits as part of providing ongoing support in school operations
· Delivering regional trainings in accordance with yearly team operational goals
