JOB OBJECTIVES:

According to the agreed roles and responsibilities for technical team, provide inputs and participate in the technical development of products and services to support the implementation of marketing strategies, sales targets as well as polices in China. Support & guide local T/S. Transponder knowledge into the local organization via organizing trainings to Sales/Marketing & local T/S organizations

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Product localization, product performance improvements and new product developments:

* Localization of known commercial products/formulas available within China, as required by the business, while maintaining original product performance attributes;

* Product improvements/formula modifications to suit the local market/standards/available raw materials;

* Identification (in conjunction with China Marketing) possible new business opportunities with products which either exist within the global or regional BASF portfolio (=> localization) or which need development in Regional Laboratories;

* Work with National Technical Manager on new product developments (for China-exclusive products);

* Ensure effective communication with other teams, especially with PM, purchasing, pilot plant team and application team to make sure new product can be developed, manufactured and applied in the right way;

* Lead new product trial production in plant and site application (for Polymeric products);

* Ensure test reports, technical data sheets; MSDS are ready for new products;

* Good documentation of product formulation, while ensuring confidentiality;

* Evaluate competitor's product, point out the strength and weaknesses for own vs competitor's products -- provide report to Marketing as reference and know where to improve our product;

* Proactively evaluate alternative raw materials (e.g. 2nd supplier) and formulation optimization to seize cost benefits.

2) Technical service/Application Support:

* Provide technical training to Sales, Marketing and local technical service team as requested - especially for new product's application;

* Lead team members in fabrication of standard samples and special samples to support sales need;

* Provide further support to solve site problems related to application or product quality in case local Technical support cannot handle on site;

* Assist local Technical support in timely solving product quality problems during manufacturing in plant (especially unstable quality caused by varying raw material quality).

3) Technical support with Marketing strategy:

*Act as an active member in China team to provide technical support such as organizing technical seminars, workshop to introduce and promote products;

*Work with local authorities on standard settings independently or co-work with PM or ISM, depends on standard property.

4) QC, EHS, MABAS applications:

* Build up and train a QC team, ensure stable & sufficient quality via checks and tests for manufactured products.

* Ensure maintenance of overall high product quality level.

5) People management:

* Management of team including delegation of appropriate tasks to subordinates.

* Train and encourage the subordinates to maximize their efforts and productivity.

* Provide technical guidance in terms of methodology, skills and expertise to improve performance of the technical team by coaching subordinates, providing exposure, development opportunities, succession planning.

REQUIREMENTS:

1) Education: Degree in Polymer, Material Engineer or Chemistry or related.

2) Working Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant technical work experience, and minimum 3 years work experience as a technical team leader.

3) Technical & Professional knowledge: Related to building materials development, consultant or application.
