Position Purpose

The Data and Analytics organization, which has been externally recognized as a world class organization for excellence in successfully applying advanced analytics solutions in pioneering, varied, and lasting ways, has an exciting leadership position available. This position is accountable to provide technical guidance and expertise in planning, designing and delivering advanced analytical solutions to meet the business needs for Air Products Business in the Asia region. This position is based at Air Products Asia Headquarters in Shanghai, China.

Position Nature and Scope

This position reports to the Director of Data and Analytics or his/her designee. The position is responsible for serving as both a senior technical lead and as a thought leader on ill-defined, broad, diverse and complex business problems that have not yet been addressed from an analytical perspective. In addition they will act as a single point of contact to help understand and identify potential Data and Analytics opportunities. The incumbent will lead all IT enabled Data and Analytics efforts by scoping, estimating, gathering requirements, and working with the Data and Analytics team to help provision data and develop appropriate solutions that deliver quick and effective results. They will also provide guidance on the best use of existing advanced analytics tools that are already available through previous Data and Analytics efforts.

This position requires an in depth understanding of Air Products businesses and functions and its organizational structures to enable the ability to quickly engage, analyze, and diagnose complex enterprise needs. The incumbent will be able to quickly and effectively assimilate business and process data and use it to diagnose improvement opportunities, guide and execute the analytical modeling (Statistical/Predictive, Optimization, Simulation) of these opportunities, and then work to implement the business process improvements and/or decisions from the analysis. This position will both generate high industry impact analyses and solve complex business problems helping to significantly improve the performance of the Asia business.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Networks with and influences senior business leaders to identify and understand how to use innovative advanced analytics techniques to help solve complex business problems

• Leads and facilitates the definition of detailed data requirements, helps develop and deliver the appropriate analytical solutions, provides input on solution interpretation, leverages existing analytical solutions, and drives the implementation of the solutions to identify and solve enterprise business problems

• Develops and maintains a strong external network of advanced analytics professionals, experts, and researchers that can be used to socialize ideas and maintain an innovative approach to solving complex problems

• Demonstrates mastery of principles in building relationships, fostering teamwork, and recognizing the generation of value from the completion of advanced analytics projects

• Exemplifies the commitment to continuous improvement, motivates others to achieve the same commitment, and is recognized by business as an expert in applying advanced analytical techniques

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Advanced technical degree in engineering, operations research, and/or statistical/predictive analytics modeling with 10+ years of experience successfully applying advanced analytics preferably in the chemical manufacturing or logistics industry sectors

• Excellent leadership/influence skills with proven ability to facilitate large cross-functional and multi-cultural teams

• Excellent communication and networking skills

• Strong technical competency in optimization (Linear/Nonlinear/ Stochastic/Dynamic), discrete event simulation, and statistical/predictive modeling (Regression/Ensemble Algorithms/Decision Trees/Clustering/ etc.)

• Strong project management skills with the ability to influence, work effectively, and implement enterprise solutions in a cross-functional, multi-regional team environment

• Broad experience and strong programming skills in various data analysis tools and languages (e.g. SQL, MS Excel, VBA, R), predictive analytics tools (e.g. IBM-SPSS Modeler and Text Mining), simulation tools (e.g. SIMIO, Arena), statistical packages, and optimization solvers (e.g. AIMMS, CPLEX, XPressMP, FrontLine)
