Main Job Purpose:

The SHE & Security Manager has overall responsibility for managing safety, health, environment and physical security activities to achieve excellence at Unilever’s multi -product category site in Hefei. The site, Unilever’s largest in the world by production volume, consists of five factories manufacturing homecare and personal care and refreshment products.

The primary purpose of the position is to implement Unilever’s SHE & Security strategies and improvement plans in order to achieve sustainable SHE & Security excellence by reducing injuries, illnesses and environmental impacts and maintaining security control as measured in the site core KPIs.

Key Accountabilities:

- Deploy the global/cluster SHE & Security strategy, policy and standards in the site to achieve excellent sustainable results;

- Coordinate with the leadership teams of the site, each factory and of the three product categories;

- Lead the on-site safety occupational health and environmental engineering professionals to achieve the applicable targets;

- Drive safety and environment risk assessments and develop/implement appropriate controls;

- Reduce the site’s environmental impact in the areas of wastewater, hazardous/non-hazardous waste, and CO₂ emissions, as well as water and energy consumption to achieve the objectives of Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan (USLP);Develop a thorough understanding of Unilever’s Behavioural Safety Program (BeSafE) and support its continued deployment in the site;

- Provide direction, leadership and support to Unilever’s World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program, in particular for the Safety and Environmental Pillars;

- Develop a thorough understanding of Unilever’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program and support deployment in the factory, supporting the application of Unilever’s guidelines and procedures for process safety assessment in SIMAS (Safety in Manufacturing and Supply);

- Lead site and factory leadership to drive safety and environmental improvements through line management;

- Monitor legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national SHE legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies;

- Work closely with the occupational health personnel to identify and mitigate risks which may lead to occupational ill health;

- Assist the site leader to develop and lead the internal crisis committees and safety committee, plus support the site leader in leading serious incident investigation and analysis;

- Advise line management in all accident/incident investigations;

- Oversee the analysis of incidents, near misses, safe behaviour observations and deep compliance audits;

- Develop and deploy internal SHE auditing and inspection systems, participate in audits of other Unilever organisations as required;

Determine training needs and assist in delivery of training programs.

Professional Skills:

ESSENTIAL

- University science or engineering degree

- National Certified Safety Engineer

- Experience in supply chain manufacturing, especially for a fast moving goods company (“FMGC”)

- Good knowledge of ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 standards

- Good observation, auditing and organizational skills

- Good influencing and presentation skills

PREFERRED

- Masters degree in science or engineering

- Knowledge of process safety and/or security management

Experience Required:

ESSENTIAL

- 10 Years in SHE experience in the supply chain operations

- Manufacturing and/or engineering experience

- Proven track record of analytical thinking and project management

PREFERRED

- At least 10 years safety experience in a multi-national FMGC

- Mechanical or chemical engineering experience
