Day to Day Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be able to manage early stage cross functional teams and will apply traditional project management methodologies of performance, scheduling, and cost control. In addition, the successful candidate will be experienced in new product and process development and be able to utilize risk management tools, to ensure on-time delivery.
The project manager will interact with customers to determine product and process requirements and assess the value of Gorilla Glass in their application. They will also coordinate with the technology function to qualify and integrate new glass as well as
new process and product technologies into the project stream as appropriate. Interface with the on-site contract manufacturers (CM) and operations / supply chain teams to understand capabilities and limitations of existing supply chain to match customer commitments with the demands of the auto interior portfolio. Interface with early-stage manufacturing teams such that prototype process / product delivery is consistent with long-term scalability. They will coordinate with the product engineering function to obtain a working knowledge of relevant industry standards for the products being supported, and to ensure that reliability testing is appropriate to new product introduction.
Travel Requirements (please note if international):
Travel is expected to be ≤ 25%. This would be a combination of domestic and international travel. International travel would most commonly be within Asia or to the United States.
Not travel but must be available to participate in evening and early morning phone calls 2-3 days a week.
Required Skills
1. The ability to assimilate requirements from the customer and greater project team and to rapidly incorporate these into a detailed project plan. The ability to seamlessly integrate risk management into the overall project plan at the outset, and to track and report progress effectively to key stakeholders.
2. Good written and verbal communicate skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, external suppliers, and team members with commercial, technical, reliability and operations backgrounds.
3. The ability to organize and drive work across functional / organizational boundaries to meet internal and external timelines. Fluency in traditional project management tools and techniques.
4. The ability to work in the more ambiguous and frequently changing environment (conflicting deadlines) of early-stage R&D by focusing on risk management / reduction, and to modify the traditional project management methodologies accordingly.
5. Possess strong work ethic and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Desired Skills
1. Experience in the automotive segments with standards compliance, product acceptance testing, and validation.
2. Experience with Gorilla® Glass compositions and specialty surfaces (anti-glare, anti-reflection and ETC).
3. Experience conducting customer projects in CM supply chains.
4. Has technical skills that can be broadly applied to a variety of process technology development activities. Has the flexibility to perform in multiple technical roles.
5. Skilled in planning and executing experiments, data analysis, and use of data to test hypotheses
6. Ability to engage technical talent to solve difficult technical problems. Demonstrated ability to lead teams of engineers and scientists to achieve project goals.
7. Competency in contract external supplier management and qualification and contract management.
8. Innovation Black Belt training, or experience with QFD methodologies, to effectively communicate with project staff.
9. Fluent command of the English language and able to compose and communicate, both in written and verbal formats, complex operations and manufacturing issues to the various levels inside and outside of the organization.
10. Fluent in Chinese.
11. Experience building networks inside customer organizations or inside supply chains in order to better understand customer requirements and to facilitate new technology implementation.
Soft Skills
1. The ability to work in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in which feedback must be rapidly assimilated and incorporated into project planning. Ability to effectively present ideas and opinions to gain understanding, consensus and support across team.
2. The ability to provide and receive open, honest feedback on a regular basis in order to drive excellence in individual and team performance.
3. The ability to interface with customers, external suppliers, and technical collaborators with high professionalism and consistent with corporate values.
