Purpose

The Open Source Lead (OSS Lead) is the open source SME driving Microsoft’s OSS strategy in the subsidiary/area. This role is responsible for seller awareness, so sales teams can be more competitive in OSS deals, as well as sales enablement for cloud OSS deals. The OSS Lead continues to be the voice of Microsoft in the field regarding Openness, showing how Linux/OSS is a first class workload in our platform. The role is instrumental in ensuring Microsoft's long-term success in an evolving industry fueled by open source. It brings unique skills and perspective to the field and helps it to be more competitive by addressing new growth opportunities in the cloud. The OSS Lead engages with and enables sales teams so they can capture cloud OSS deals. It also owns the OSS audience end to end, drives the value proposition and engages with the purpose of building pipeline. Therefore it provides sales enablement and helps ensure a level playing field for Microsoft to succeed.

Key initiatives of the role include:

•Building and maintaining an open source opportunity pipeline and partnering with sales teams, business groups and corporate to ensure timely closing of opportunities to customer’s satisfaction

•Establishing a voice and rhythm of engagement with the open source ecosystem, positioning Microsoft as an open source thought leader

•Identifying opportunities for business development with accounts and partners, passionately advocating for Microsoft’s open source capabilities, and connecting customers and partners

•Driving the Openness campaign directed at open source audiences in all conversational levels

•Articulating the value proposition of Microsoft devices and services from an open source and local software economy perspective, and enabling sales teams to land this value proposition (localizing content, meeting with customers, removing sales blockers, driving readiness, managing objections)

•Capturing the open source customer voice in customer case studies and influencing product strategy by capturing present or future customer needs around open source, open standards, and interoperability

Experiences Required: Key Experiences, Skills and Knowledge

Experience

• 8+ years of experience in marketing, business development or as a technologist in a multinational company handling multi-stakeholder strategy and go to market campaigns

• Comprehensive knowledge of the open source ecosystem including technologies and trends, business models, actors and competitors as well as influencers and communities

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (B.S./B.A.) required, MBA preferred. Relevant fields of study include Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Technology, Open Source
