Accountabilities for the role:

· Demonstrates clear ability to work with others and promotes a collaborative environment that facilitates growth of other team members and colleagues.

· Interacts with all personnel in a professional and appropriate manner in order to achieve the objectives of the department and company.

· Medically monitor cases by:

o Telephone contact and consultation with on-site treating medical providers

o Review of medical cases to determine compatibility of medical condition and treatment

o Intervene as necessary on medical cases and/or multi-issue cases

· Exercise medical judgment to perform case reviews and medical contacts as necessary to discern and recommend:

o Triage determinations based upon chief complaint and/or injury or illness

o Final approval of all medical evacuations evidenced by signing off on the medical necessity of each such evacuation in conjunction with the on-duty AIG Travel supervisor and on-duty Nurse Case Manager

o Method of transport, stabilization requirements and treatment modalities prior to and during transport, and timing of transport in conjunction with the local treating medical provider

o Appropriate destination facility determination

o Consultation with and referral to appropriate receiving physician

o Compatibility of medical condition with policy coverage

o Claims-related issues

· Works in conjunction with Medical Assistance Department personnel to effectively work toward and direct medical case management assuring that the client receives quality assistance services.

· Works with Assistance Coordinators to assure quality assistance services to the client by directing case management in relation to medical needs.

· Determines optimal direction of case management.

· Effectively manages computer technology to adequately document case management and accomplish other aspects required for daily operation in the Medical Department.

· Participates and supports departmental performance improvement initiatives, including QA.

· Participates in the education and training, both formal and informal, to include call centre staff, claims, and all areas as appropriate.

· Communicates Medical Department Service enhancements to Nurse Manager and Medical Director.

· Actively participates in Medical Department meetings maintaining a minimum 70% attendance.

· When requested, participates in medical staff recruitment opportunities.

· Identifies educational opportunities for job-specific professional development and submits such opportunities to Nurse Manager for consideration for tuition sponsorship.

· Staffs as Medical Case Manager as directed by Medical Department Manager

· Medically monitors cases by: Telephone contact with treating medical providers and/or review of medical reports

· Appropriately and completely documents case activity

· Determines medically necessary travel requirements in conjunction with treating physician and AIG Travel Medical Case Manager. Immediately provide appropriate and effective medical advice and medical assistance, including requests for medical evacuations from any country in the world, to AIG Travel insured clients

· Performs case reviews to determine compatibility of medical condition and policy coverage, including work with the claims department

· Demonstrates exemplary customer service orientation.

· Participates in promotional activities to internal and external clients when requested.

· When requests, participates, in the development of new or enhanced products that are medically related,

· Carry out accountabilities and objectives within the framework of AIG Travel’s TCF (Treating Customers Fairly), TCP (Travel Compliance Protocol) & Training & Competence policies .

Qualifications Required:

· Demonstrates personal expertise and knowledge in emergency/critical care (minimum of five years).

· Demonstrates personal expertise and knowledge in out-of-hospital emergency care, aero medical transport services, and flight physiology.

· Demonstrates critical independent thinking and ability to multi-task in situations where in the outcome is time sensitive.

· Effectively manages computer technology, typing and word processing.

· Holds a medical degree and a valid license to practice the medical profession

· Self-motivated and able to work under pressure with a high level of responsibility.

· Effective time management to be able to multi-task, prioritise to meet varying tasks and deadlines and delegate.

· Strong communicator at all levels; verbally and written to build and maintain internal and external relationships.

· To work with integrity independently or as part of a team to achieve personal and business objectives.

· Able to self-reflect/analyse, actively seek feedback to identify strengths and personal development areas.
