The aim
We are looking for an enthusiastic statistician with a working knowledge of the statistical software package SPSS to join Mintel's Consumer Research and Data Analytics team in Shanghai. A knowledge of data analysis techniques, such as segmentation or multivariate and time-series regression is required.
You will be working as part of a global team that provides a first class level of quantitative consumer analysis and insight to the annual schedule of Mintel’s consumer reports In China.
The responsibilities
Analysing data: You will be using a wide range of research tools in SPSS to analyse and tabulate quantitative consumer research data, test results for statistical significance, create key driver analysis and build customer segmentation models.
Market forecast: You will be responsible for producing market forecasts using a multivariate time-series regression approach in SPSS.
Database management- You will be responsible for updating and maintaining Mintel’s market size and macroeconomic database.
Product development: You will participate in the development of statistical methodologies and techniques to add further value to Mintel’s statistical output. You will be responsible for recommending and implementing better ways of presenting data in reports. Furthermore, you will be asked to locate new secondary data sources for use within Mintel’s reports.
Who we are looking for:
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate:
? Bachelor’s degree (preferable Master’s Degree) in Statistics, Maths, Economics or any numerate degree with a minimum of 2:1 (or a GPA of at least 3)
? Fluent in Mandarin (preferably native speaker) and English.
? 1-2 years relevant work experience within a market research environment preferable
? Sound grasp of statistical theory and application, ideally used in a marketing or commercial environment
? A good working knowledge of SPSS syntax. (Experience of SAS will also be considered.)
? Experience in quantitative research methodologies and analysis techniques such as correlation, multivariate regression, segmentation using factor, cluster and/or CHAID analysis.
? You will be required to work independently with minimal supervision hence; excellent attention to detail is essential.
? Great organisational skills as well as the ability to multitask as you will be required to work on a number of projects at the same time to meet agreed deadlines. Project management experience is desirable.
? Good presentation and communication skills with ability to explain and promote statistical findings to non-technical audiences.
? Good analytical and interpretative skills, an inquiring mind, creative ideas and plenty of enthusiasm.
? Experience of using any survey programming software (eg Confirmit) would be an advantage.
? Strong Excel skills would be an advantage.
? A high degree of numeracy.
