Mobile Device Application Designer
Role description:
The Mobile Device Application Designer is a key member of the Product Design team. Working with the Product Owner and using their observation skills in a customer environment, the Mobile Device Application Designer is responsible for designing, specifying and developing designs for mobile devices which are intuitive and compelling. In partnership with the R&D team, the Designer will be responsible for bringing their solutions to market.

As one of our Mobile Device Application Designers you will be expected to carry out research in order to understand the needs of the users, as well as continual evaluations of your designs to ensure they appropriate.

You will be expected to research competitive and complimentary technology offerings to identify competitive gaps and develop plans to close them, as well as researching complimentary technology offerings to identify opportunities for synergistic partnerships.

Responsibilities:
1. Software design – using best practices, the Mobile Device Application Designers’ main task is to create a design which is appropriate for mobile devices. The Mobile Device Application Designer will be expected to produce a number of artefacts (such as wireframes and requirements documents) which can be used to communicate the design to the software team
2. Interaction Design - design and develop software solutions that meet the need of the user and business, in a compelling and intuitive way. Because of the remote nature of this posting, the Mobile Device Application Designer will need to work with our usability teams in the UK and the USA to understand the needs of the user.
3. Story development – working with the Product Owner, who will be responsible for the Product Backlog and high-level story outlines, the Interaction design should use their knowledge and research to refine the Stories so that they accurately reflect the needs of the user and the scenarios they find themselves in
4. Liaise with customer base to gather information and requirements – Ultimately the customer is the target of our efforts. NextGen development must solve their problems and meet their requirements. The Mobile Device Application Designer will be responsible for understanding their needs and articulating them to the development team
5. Work closely with the R&D team – Although there will be many consumers of the information produced by the Mobile Device Application Designer, one of the key objectives of the role is to articulate the UX requirements to the R&D team so that they can implement the correct solution. To that end, not only will precise, accurate requirements need to be produced, but also the Mobile Device Application Designer will need to be able to work closely with the development group to ensure that the team can work efficiently
6. Present information to the internal stakeholders and external customers where necessary – It is important that the information that the NextGen team consumes is fed back to the project stakeholders so that they are able to comment on the direction of the project and, in order, they remain invested. The Mobile Device Application Designer will from time to time be expected to provide this feedback in both meeting sessions and presentations
7. Interface Artwork – Given direction, the artist must be able to bring a concept to life. The attributes that define this must then be carried through to a GUI
8. Creation of interface controls – Must carry their designs through to the actual interface
9. Work interactively with R&D – the candidate will need to work closely with developers as well as other members of the UX team to ensure the interfaces are built properly and the experience the user has is the right one
10. User centric – when making design decisions, the designer will need to keep an eye towards the user and what their decision may mean to them and the experience they have
11. Be aware of technology advances – new tech changes in the dental and IT world could mean changes in how we deliver our solutions. Mobile Device Application Designer should always be looking out for ways to make our solutions more beneficial to our user, extend our presence or increase our business using new technology advances
12. Program Evangelist – as a senior member of the Product Design and one of a small number of Mobile Device Application Designers in our Shanghai facility, team you will expected to propagate knowledge of the program and its benefits to stakeholders and non-stakeholders alike.

Requirements:
1. Two years experience working as an Mobile Device Application Designer or User Experience Professional, designing and developing mobile solutions
2. Two years experience working as Web Designer, familiar with HTML/CSS and scripting principles for web browser compatibility
3. Two years experience working as Visual Designer, good sense of visual design for user interface in business or healthcare environment
4. Two years experience interacting with users, understanding their needs and translating into product designs
5. Two year experience working in a Software Development environment using one of the AGILE SDLC methodologies
6. A digital portfolio that demonstrates the candidate’s ability to design and implement graphical user interfaces required
7. Intimate working knowledge of leading design tools like Adobe Creative Suite
8. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
