Database Developer (SQL Server)

Job Duties:

· Responsible for the development of infrastructure to support all aspects of database service provision including service security, maintenance, monitoring, recovery, performance tuning, consistency checking.
Responsible for development of Inventory storage and reporting systems for database services to facilitate support, license management, evergreening, billing and charging, business continuity, operations, change and incident management, vulnerability assessment, adherence to group standards.
Responsible for development of tools for operational DBAs to support database service definition and build, troubleshoot access, secure host and database service access, service status reporting, event recording,
Responsible for development of tools for use by stake holders in other departments such as IT Security, Audit/Governance and Asset Class application teams where these relate to database services.

· Toolset Administration
Responsible for maintenance and administration of the toolset and inventory services described above.

· Database Version Packaging
As part of the definition of standard database implementations (Superstacks), responsible for packaging database version components to ensure consistent installation and adherence to Group standards.

· Database Strategy Definition
Representation of GB&M and participation in the formulation of Group database strategy. Definition of Superstack builds for database services and definition of services in which these Superstack builds are to be deployed.

· Audit and Security
Development of tools and standards to ensure adherence to Group Security standards. Development of assessment tools to report and track adherence to Group policies and standards.

Candidate Specifications:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

· Able to engage at all levels with DBA and application support teams, other technology service providers, internal and external to GB&M, and their management.

· Self sufficient and adopting a business focused approach, but ensuring team standards and processes are adhered to. Able to prioritise multiple demands for support and service delivery and present clear, evidence based solutions to management. Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements without compromising quality. Ability to assess business impact of technology changes and issues and communicate/escalate these appropriately.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

· Proven IT experience in distributed applications, with hands-on Sybase/MSSQL/Oracle experience as a DBA supporting mission critical systems.

· Expertise or ability to acquire expertise in core programming languages SQL, Shell, PHP, optionally javascript.

· Recognised and proven subject expertise in at least one of the main database technologies.

· Finance industry or equivalent experience in a demanding multi-project role is essential.

· Good understanding of the Unix/Linux/Windows environment and configurations.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in a database engineering function.

Additional Information

Ability to work under pressure, take ownership, and deliver to commitments. Ability to build relationships and work as part of a team. Understanding of the importance of communication in the technical environment. Education typically to degree level or equivalent training.
