JOB PURPOSE
Manage a portfolio of joint-customer application development projects and provide technical solutions to a wide range of equipment with different sophistication level across various countries to increase efficiency and effectiveness for customers and other relevant value chain members to develop business opportunities in the form of new applications and expand Borouge’s market areas of involvement. A more capable incumbent for this role could be a potential successor to Manager, Application Development.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide inputs and explain factors to the Marketing Centre to support product and pricing strategies
· Understand competitor pricing, product and regional strategy.
· Able to start providing inputs to MC on product and pricing strategies.
· Understand and communicate to the Marketing and Marketing Intelligence teams, factors that will dramatically affect supply and demand balance (e.g. launch of new products, new capacity by competitors).
Manage complex projects in application development and deliver effective technical support
· Promote and coordinate technical knowledge harvesting within the organization.
· Act as a key member of the regional AMT and help AMM’s develop business cases and value propositions for new products.
· Drive the industry and application development program through creating new products and taking them to the market
· Participate in the definition and execution of Borouge new product development program involving in new materials and process qualification, new product plant trials, machinery manufacturer engagement and commercialization.
· Lead the effective project management for complex projects (with higher technical scope handle by territorial teams) to meet project objectives on time, cost and quality standards.
· Keep abreast with Patents/Intellectual Property Right issues and developments for the assigned application and monitor optimum protection of company IPRs in accordance with defined laws and protocols.
· Proactively review how Borouge materials can be improved with insights gained from interactions with customers and machinery manufacturers.
· Understand and anticipate user perceptions of the new products relevant to areas of expertise.
· Maintain an active lookout for new market innovation opportunities through interactions with external contacts.
· Participate as a proactive member of functional network(s), develop positive liaison with relevant external contacts (e.g. customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, authorities, standardization committees).
· Share technical findings, benchmarking studies, comparative studies of the competitor products with the rest of the marketing organization to better influence Borouge's market positions.
· Ensure consolidation and effective communication of technical findings discussed in Regional AMT and other meetings.
Analyse product portfolio and explain value-added product benefits information to enhance products and suggest reccomendations
Understand product features and be able to turn that into value propositions and benefits to assist in value selling training of sales team.
Deliver value-added, product benefits information to customers.
Obtain first hand product and process knowledge through customer visits. E.g. ask about product use, applications, expectations, etc.
Conduct a product portfolio analysis and benchmark against competition to develop specific recommendations and actions to management.
Continual assessment and prioritization of individual product applications, sales and margins. Uses this knowledge to promote the right materials to the right customers to drive MC strategy.
Develop improved products with value chain partners
Provide technical expert explanations to Value Chain Partners to support marketing plan and business objectives:
· Able to correspond with value chain partners as technical expert.
· Maintain strong diverse and multi-level relationships.
· Maintain frequent contact with key customers/ value chain partners to understand current and future market and customer/ value chain partners’ requirements.
· Regularly seek sales force input and incorporate insights into implementation of plans.
· Maintain professional composure in the face of others' anger and complaints.
· Engage with value chain partners appropriately to build customer intimacy, in support of marketing plan and business objectives and to develop products with enhanced properties that fit future needs.
· Effectively exchange information with value chain partners to identify and clarify benefits and potential problems; actively listen to value chain partners and displays understanding of their issues, viewpoints and needs.
Implement technical systems and process to provide technical support and trouble-shooting for customers:
Adapt systems to significantly improve tracking of grade/complaint information in support of running business.
Handle customer queries which are more complex in nature and carry out the effective handling of claims and investigations for issues with a similar complexity while developing reports with findings to support management decision making.
Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of technical services systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
Ensure proper documentation of technical issues addressed including information on what the problem was, actions taken and the actual outcome
Promote Borouge’s product portfolio and new application production within the region to build customer and partner relationships
· Support the sales function in planning and introducing new product to customers/partners, providing processing and technical data skills.
· Conduct presentation, seminars and workshops on Borouge’s product portfolio within the region in liaison with product owners to establish brand awareness and increase the customer base.
· Conduct presentations on new application production to customers/partners and ensure effective resolutions of complex issues of critical customers achieving optimum customer satisfaction.
· Resolve Regular/ Partner customers' technical problems related to processing and/or application, within existing product mix.
· Acknowledged as the preferred technical contact for customers/ partners.
· Able to solve problems spontaneously in customers/partners-facing environment.
· Continually seek opportunities to work with technical partners to develop appropriate new products.
· Good value chain understanding. Able to proactively advise customers/ partners in continuously improving their operations using Borouge materials.
· Support customers/partners short term projects to create new business opportunities for Borouge.
· Effective interface for customer/ partner to the other Borouge functions, such as Global Comms, other Marketing Centers and other Value Chain
Lead and engage discussions in selected applications and all levels of value chain to align with strategic needs
· Key strength in engaging all levels of value chain and initiating changes within MC in line with strategic need.
· Able to proactively identify activities with customers and machinery manufacturers which will enhance implementation of strategy and initiate actions independently.
· Leads customer discussions in promoting Borouge products in selected applications.

Supervise junior colleagues to provide guidance on troubleshooting and technical solutioning

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualification
· University degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent science / engineering degree
· Preferably, M.Sc. degree in Polymer Chemistry / Technology / Chemical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
· Minimum 7 - 10 years of total experience in the polymer, chemical or application related industry
· Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in polyolefins material production industry
· Good knowledge of plastic markets and applications
· Good knowledge of polymer technologies, catalysts, and additives
· Good knowledge of plastics processing, testing and analytical techniques
· Good knowledge of different machineries
· Good knowledge of businesses at different stages
· Commercial understanding and interest in business value in the respected business area
